ChipPurr, an orange ball of fluff, was discovered abandoned by a road in August by a member of the Stripers’ staff. Tricia Wurmstein, the team’s Marketing Manager and ChipPurr’s devoted handler, recounted the moment, saying, “One of our staff members happened to just be driving to work and saw him literally in the middle of the road in traffic. So he got out of his car, scooped him up, and then brought him here.”

Since his arrival, ChipPurr has become an unofficial mascot for the Minor League Baseball team, which is affiliated with the Atlanta Braves. The team embraced the opportunity to engage fans by allowing them to submit name suggestions for the kitten before holding a poll on social media. The winning name, ChipPurr “CJ” Jones, is a playful tribute to the legendary Braves player Chipper Jones.

As “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne blared through the speakers, a crowd of fans cheered on the tiny feline as he approached the mound. Wurmstein guided ChipPurr with a treat in hand, nudging the kitten towards the pitcher’s plate. “Honestly, it went so much better than I anticipated,” Wurmstein reflected on ChipPurr’s big moment. “He was ready for the occasion.” His appearance was a highlight against the backdrop of the charity event, which encouraged fans to bring their own cats to the game while participating in a pet supply donation drive for a nearby animal shelter.
