In a recent interview with *PEOPLE*, Ronan, 32, expressed a strong desire to act alongside her husband once again. Although the couple has only appeared together in a single feature film, their mutual admiration for each other’s work has led them to collaborate behind the scenes as well. They co-produced Ronan’s latest film, *The Outrun*, through their production company, Arcade Pictures.
Ronan mentioned her hopes of convincing Lowden, 36, to join her in a stage production, noting his exceptional talent and comfort in live performances. “I mean, I would love for us to work together again,” she said. “I’ve said to him I really want him to do a play with me because he’s so incredible on stage and that’s where he really comes to life.” She appreciates Lowden’s ability to thrive in that environment, even if she feels less confident on stage herself.
The couple met while working on *Mary Queen of Scots*, where Ronan portrayed the titular character, and Lowden played her second husband, Henry Stuart. I don’t know. I think he just finds it weird,” Ronan reflected. “He gets embarrassed working with any of his friends.”
As Ronan promotes *Bad Apples*, a film that has just hit theatres, she highlighted its provocative and darkly comedic nature. In this film, she plays a teacher who grapples with one particularly unruly student, portrayed by Eddie Waller. The plot takes a dramatic turn as her character resorts to kidnapping the disruptive student, triggering a criminal investigation that clashes with her attempts to maintain equilibrium in her professional life.
Ronan acknowledged the discomfort that the film’s premise might evoke among viewers but believes audiences today are more prepared to engage with such challenging narratives. “I was just happy to do it really. And I knew as well that it was definitely going to make people feel uncomfortable,” she commented. “But I think people are used to being in that space more nowadays anyway.”
Her reflections on the film reveal her appreciation for narratives that prompt deeper moral introspection. “We either want something super, super easy or something that really pushes us to a place that questions our morality,” she added. “So I think it’s fine to go there.”
Meanwhile, Lowden has been making a name for himself in the industry, particularly through his role in the Apple TV series *Slow Horses*, for which he received critical acclaim, including two Emmy nominations. He is also slated to appear in an adaptation of *Pride and Prejudice*, set to be released on Netflix on December 3, 2023.
