During an episode of “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle,” Bush Hager recounted the unique birthday bash. She affectionately referred to her cats as “creatures” of the family, illustrating her fondness for them. “I’m a little tired because we celebrated two members of my family’s birthdays — well, they’re not people — creatures, who I love very much,” she said, revealing her excitement over the event.
The party’s highlight was a special pet-friendly cake, purchased from Petco, designed for both cats and dogs. Jenna shared a delightful image of Maisie and Mango posed by their cake but expressed her reservations about trying the treat herself. “I didn’t want to eat it, you know what I’m saying?” she quipped, hinting at the cake’s questionable ingredients.
Despite the challenging weather that day, Jenna’s three children — Mila, aged 13, Poppy, 11, and Hal, 7 — insisted on celebrating the occasion. “Yesterday, as anyone in New York knows, it was terrible weather,” she explained. “All I wanted to do was get into bed and read my book. And they were like, ‘We need to go to Petco to get the cake!’”
Mila took on the role of persuader, encouraging the cats to partake in their birthday treat. Jenna described her eldest daughter’s approach, saying, “Mila pushed — not in a mean way — but like, ‘You’re gonna like this!’ like you would at a baby’s first birthday.” Apparently, the cats appreciated the effort enough to try the cake.
Interestingly, while the celebration was joyful, Jenna clarified that the two cats have different birthdays. “Maisie’s birthday is in July and Mango’s birthday, his birthday is when he came to us, last week,” she explained, highlighting the uniqueness of their respective celebrations. Nonetheless, the family chose to commemorate them together.
When co-host Sheinelle Jones inquired whether Jenna was present during the cats’ births, Jenna jokingly replied that she wasn’t. “Can you imagine if I was there like, ‘I caught her!’” she laughed, adding a touch of humour to the discussion about pet parenthood.
The festivities also featured the Bush-Hager family singing to the cats, although Jenna lamented that her kids were becoming less inclined to appear on television. “I’ve gotten to where my kids don’t really want to be on the show anymore,” she remarked, with a hint of nostalgia for the earlier days of family appearances.
