A 68-year-old woman in Florida has been charged with attempted murder and abuse after allegedly trying to overdose her two adult sons before attempting the same on herself. Marilyn Elise Therrell was arrested on September 8 following an incident that raised alarming concerns about the welfare of her family.

Authorities from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of overdoses at a residence on Indian Ridge Trail South in Kissimmee shortly after 10 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Therrell alongside her sons, aged 30 and 32, all showing signs of apparent medication overdoses. Emergency services promptly transported them to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
In the aftermath of the event, investigators gathered evidence from the scene and interviewed both family members and the property owner. Their inquiry suggested that the overdoses might not have been accidental. Following a detailed interview on September 17, Therrell reportedly confessed to detectives that she had been struggling to care for her sons, both of whom have autism, since her husband’s passing last year.
According to the sheriff’s office, Therrell expressed to investigators that her caregiving responsibilities had become overwhelming. She allegedly revealed that in her despair, she had intentionally administered overdoses to her sons in an attempt to end their lives, as well as her own.
Therrell has since been taken into custody and is being held at the Osceola County Jail, facing two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated abuse of a disabled adult. Court documents indicate that her bail has been set at £50,000.
