Vayda Kero, a 22-year-old content creator, is shedding light on her unconventional upbringing in a house overwhelmed by clutter, a lifestyle often described as hoarding. Currently, she works as a house cleaner, and through her online platform, she encourages people to refrain from making snap judgments about the cleanliness of others’ homes.

Kero’s childhood was spent in a chaotic environment alongside her grandparents, mother, uncle, and brothers. She began to share her personal experiences online after first gaining attention for documenting her dental health journey and subsequent surgery. Her videos have resonated with many viewers, prompting discussions on family dynamics and the impact of one’s living conditions.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Kero recalled how it initially seemed entirely normal to her. She pointed out the stark contrast when visiting friends’ homes; the realisation struck her that her living situation was not typical. One of her more startling anecdotes involved her grandfather mistaking a deceased squirrel for her grandmother’s wig, a reflection of the unusual circumstances that defined her childhood.
Her toys, she explained, were often lost or damaged due to the state of their living conditions. Kero further described how the pervasive smell in the house led to misunderstandings when she attempted to mask it with air fresheners. “I was so tired from the mould exposure that I would come home from school, eat dinner around 3 PM, and fall asleep immediately, only to wake up the next morning to get ready for school,” she noted, illustrating the toll that her environment took on her health and academic performance.
Living in that house full-time until she was 12 years old, Kero continued to visit intermittently until the age of 17. It was during her time as a full-time content creator that she sought other subjects to discuss, which led her to explore the theme of her childhood living conditions. “I began to think about what else I could share that people would find interesting,” she said, recognising the value in sharing her unique experience.
Despite the challenges, Kero’s family dynamics contributed to their shared situation. She acknowledged the influence of her grandparents’ habits while discussing how her mother, too, struggled but eventually broke free of those cycles. “We were raised in that environment, and it had an impact on all of us,” she remarked.
Recently, Kero moved back into the house to care for her grandfather. She admitted that while the living conditions remain difficult, she makes an effort to maintain her surroundings. Her work as a cleaner has provided her with insights on managing and improving domestic spaces. “Cleaning for others has taught me how to handle my own environment better,” she shared.
Kero has also expressed a desire to foster understanding and prevent judgement from others regarding people’s living situations. “You never know why someone’s home might be in disarray,” she explained, advocating for empathy. She highlighted that factors affecting cleanliness could stem from various reasons, including physical limitations, rather than simply laziness.
The challenges she faced have instilled a mindset of positivity and resilience in Kero. She mentioned the importance of maintaining a hopeful outlook, reiterating, “I firmly believe it’s crucial to remember that this is a temporary situation.” Kero wishes for her audience to see the progress she has made from her past, aiming to entertain rather than invite pity.
“I appreciate those who reach out to me because they relate to my story,” she said. Kero remains grateful for the community formed through her videos, as they offer both validation and camaraderie to those who have endured similar circumstances. Through her platform, she aspires not only to entertain but also to provide a space for dialogue surrounding difficult childhood narratives, encouraging others to embrace their stories with humour and resilience.
