Bobb’e J. Thompson, an actor renowned for his role as Stanley in the popular television series “That’s So Raven,” has been sentenced to 30 months in prison following his conviction for possession of a stolen firearm. The sentencing, announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, comes as a significant chapter in the former child star’s troubled legal history.

The 30-year-old Thompson was apprehended on September 22, 2025, while driving at an alarming speed of 104 mph in a 70 mph zone in Cerro Gordo County. During the traffic stop, law enforcement officers noticed suspicious behaviour; Thompson reportedly switched seats with a passenger. Additionally, officers detected a strong smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
A subsequent search of Thompson’s car revealed disturbing items, including a backpack containing multiple bags of marijuana purchased from a dispensary, alongside a fully loaded .40 caliber handgun equipped with a 15-round magazine and a bullet in the chamber. The firearm in question was confirmed to be stolen from a vehicle in Thompson’s home city of Kansas City, Missouri.
Thompson’s legal troubles date back several years. In 2020, he was convicted of battery causing serious bodily injury and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury. A prior conviction for prohibited possession of a firearm in 2022 added to the seriousness of his current charges. On April 28, 2026, he entered a guilty plea for possession of a firearm by a felon, leading to the recent sentencing by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand.
The court has mandated that Thompson serve the entirety of his 30-month sentence, after which he will be subjected to three years of supervised release. Under federal law, there is no option for parole, meaning Thompson must complete the full term of his sentence before he can be released to supervision.
