Tyler Perry Reveals Why He Will Never Get Married

Tyler Perry, the renowned filmmaker and actor, has made it clear that he has no plans to marry in the future. In a recent appearance on ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show,’ Perry discussed his views on marriage and the reasons behind his decision to remain single. The comments come as he promotes the release of his latest project, the third film in the ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ series.

During the Season 5 premiere of Hudson’s show on September 14, the 57-year-old was asked directly if he would consider tying the knot. His response was swift and emphatic: “Nope.” Perry elaborated that his reluctance stems not from a dislike of marriage itself, but from the stigma and consequences associated with divorce. He remarked, “It’s not the marriage that bothers me, it’s the divorce,” pointing out how he has witnessed many successful individuals suffer financially due to marital separations.

Host Jennifer Hudson playfully offered to sing at Perry’s hypothetical wedding, but the filmmaker remained unfazed by her encouragement, reiterating his stance with a definitive “No.” When discussing marriage, he reflected on the heartbreak and dishonesty he associates with it, stating, “You’re no good, heartbreaker. You’re a liar. You’re a cheat. I don’t know why I let you do these things to me.” This sentiment highlights Perry’s wariness regarding romantic commitments.

During the same promotional appearances, which also included an appearance on ‘Today with Jenna & Sheinelle,’ Perry expressed his desire to slow down as he ages. He candidly noted that earlier in his career, he had entertained the idea of marriage; however, upon reflection, he has reassessed that view, stating, “At this age, that’s not a good idea for me.” Interestingly, he claimed that his own film had a paradoxical effect, causing him to scare himself out of considering marriage altogether.

Perry shares an 11-year-old son, Aman, with his former partner, Gelila Bekele. The couple, who were together from 2009 to 2020, never legally formalised their relationship through marriage. As a single father, Perry is now focusing on greater involvement in his son’s life. He has recently revealed plans for a significant change, indicating that he intends to relocate to Puerto Rico at the start of 2027.

Expressing a desire for balance in both work and personal life, Perry stated, “Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot.” He emphasised that his decision is influenced by the natural progression of life and a growing awareness of his age. “Getting older inspired this,” he mentioned. “It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in.”

However, it is worth noting that Perry’s illustrious career has not been without challenges. The filmmaker is currently facing two legal lawsuits related to allegations of sexual misconduct, claims which he has vehemently denied. This legal turmoil adds a layer of complexity to his otherwise celebrated status within the entertainment industry.
