A recent briefing by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has placed focus on a video recording of the flight, described by investigator Fabian Salazar as possibly the most substantial evidence available to date. This footage, shared by journalist Matthew Keys, showcases nearly seven minutes of the helicopter’s final moments, including commentary from Moreno as she directed the crew on how to best capture the aerial view of the ongoing bus incident.
Throughout the broadcast, Moreno is heard discussing aerial positioning with Marciniw, enthusiastically trying to capture the scene. However, as the footage progresses, her tone changes dramatically. Footage reveals Moreno’s voice shifting from coordination to concern, exclaiming, “Uh oh,” mere moments before the video feed cuts out and the helicopter begins to descend rapidly.

Jack Cress, an accident investigation instructor at the University of Southern California’s Aviation Safety and Security Program, expressed similar sentiments regarding potential causes of the alarm. He suggested possibilities such as engine failure or a hydraulic system malfunction may have contributed to the incident. Cress pointed out that while the AS 350 B2 helicopter, the model involved, is typically a reliable choice for law enforcement and news operations, an engine failure could swiftly lead to a loss of rotor momentum.
The NTSB continues to delve into potential causes behind the crash, with Guzzetti suggesting further investigation is warranted. “It could be a clog in the fuel line, or it might relate to some mechanical failure within the engine. Bailee Lynn Rios, a 36-year-old woman, has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the bus collision that resulted in two fatalities and injured several others. Rios is currently being held on a $4 million bond. Although she has yet to be formally charged, discussions between law enforcement and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office are ongoing.
