Initially, Lainey and another rescued dog, Maggie, were placed in the care of a foster mother who anticipated only a short-term commitment. Over a year later, both dogs remain in her care while GSL Rescue continues their search for permanent placements. The foster mother’s role has been pivotal; Begler noted, “She cares for them as her own while we search for their forever homes.”

Another companion, Chester, has since found a loving family, leaving Lainey and Maggie to adjust to their new lives. While Lainey is beginning to open up, her healing journey has required patience. The shelter reported that she has shown remarkable progress in adapting to human interaction, becoming more comfortable and playful under positive reinforcement training.

Described as joyful and affectionate, Lainey has developed a fondness for activities such as playing fetch. “She loves playing with people and dogs, and will bring you a tennis ball to throw for hours on end,” shared Begler. However, new encounters still demand an adjustment period for Lainey, as she tends to bark when meeting unfamiliar individuals. Once she feels at ease, she transforms into a friendly companion who enjoys cuddling and sitting on laps.

In search of her ideal forever home, GSL Rescue is looking for a quiet environment in California where Lainey can flourish. “She is a foodie,” Begler added, emphasizing that attention, playtime, and tasty snacks are essential for her continued progress. Maggie, Lainey’s faithful companion, has played a significant part in her recovery. Described as a former mama dog, Maggie’s nurturing presence has been invaluable in helping Lainey navigate her new life.
