Coi Leray, the artist behind the hit track “Players,” has shared details of a significant feud with fellow rapper Latto, which reportedly escalated to a physical confrontation. During a recent appearance on The Jason Lee Show, Leray recounted the origins of the conflict, which began in 2023 due to a lyric from Latto’s song “Put It on Da Floor.”
The controversial line referenced Leray and caused her to feel disrespected, as she believed Latto was using her name as a form of clout chasing and to fuel an online beef she did not wish to partake in. “I don’t want to be f—ed with,” Leray expressed, emphasising her desire to remain unassociated with fabricated rivalries.
As the tension grew, the situation took a turn for the worse. Leray disclosed that she had a physical altercation with Latto’s sister, Brooklyn, which resulted in a fistfight. Leray explained that the initial incident occurred when Brooklyn swung at her but was thwarted by security. However, the two later crossed paths again and exchanged blows. “It was like we ran up on each other,” Leray said, recounting the confrontation.
At the time of the fight, Leray had recently undergone knee surgery and was wearing a brace while on tour. She clarified that she did not intend to instigate violence but felt compelled to defend herself against what she perceived as an attack stemming from Latto’s lyrics. Despite the chaos, Leray mentioned that she believed Latto and Brooklyn initially had positive feelings towards her.
Recognising the need for reconciliation, Leray made the decision to reach out to Latto in an attempt to resolve their differences. “I really put my pride aside,” she told Lee, expressing her conflict about being the first to reach out but ultimately recognising the importance of personal growth and moving past the public drama.
Leray’s shift in mindset was also linked to her becoming a mother, which encouraged her to desire a fresh start and distance herself from negativity. The two rappers’ relationship was further highlighted during the interview when Lee jested about Latto’s relationship with 21 Savage, to which Leray jokingly responded.
When questioned about the possibility of a collaboration with Latto, Leray expressed optimism. “She’s open to it,” she stated, hinting at the potential for a professional reunion following their personal reconciliation.
Additionally, Leray discussed her ambitions to transcend the conventional expectations often imposed on female rappers. Acknowledging her peers, including legends like Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, she proclaimed her respect for the female rap community but emphasised her desire to pursue a different artistic path. “I want everybody to win, but I don’t want no parts of that,” she noted, suggesting she is ready to redefine her place in the music industry.
Coi Leray’s latest single, “Nothing Into Something,” is set to be released on September 18, marking a new chapter as she moves forward from past conflicts and seeks a more positive direction in her career. The rapper appears to be focused on her personal growth and the creation of music that reflects her evolving identity.
