It has emerged that Kosowski had prior legal grievances with the Cozzi law firm, as he had been embroiled in a contentious lawsuit against his former employer and colleagues at the Laufer Institute for Plastic Surgery. Cozzi was among the attorneys representing those parties, which adds a complex layer to the alleged motive behind the crime. Kosowski had left the Laufer Institute in 2018 and subsequently worked at Sono Bello Tampa, where his surgical specialisations included facial plastic surgery and body contouring.

He recalled a particularly fraught deposition in January 2023, when Kosowski allegedly referred to Cozzi using derogatory terms.
