Supermodel Cindy Crawford has opened up about an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction during the Gucci Cruise 2027 fashion show held on May 16, 2026. In a recent interview with Net-a-Porter’s digital magazine, Porter, Crawford shared her experience of walking the runway in New York City’s Times Square, where she wore a stunning strapless black gown adorned with feathers.

The 60-year-old model revealed that her shoe unexpectedly came off as she stepped onto the runway. “The dress was so heavy and my heel came out of my shoe right when I walked out and I never got it back in,” she recounted. Fortunately, the voluminous dress hid the issue from the audience. Crawford, known for her iconic status in the fashion industry, added a humorous touch to her predicament, thinking, “Just don’t lose the shoe. Just keep the shoe on. I don’t want to be like Cinderella.”

The star-studded event also featured appearances from celebrities including Paris Hilton and Tom Brady, who was making his debut on the runway. During the interview, Crawford expressed pride in having her daughter, Kaia Gerber, support her participation in the high-profile show. “Kaia was very supportive and proud of me for doing it because she knew I was like, ‘Wait, is this a good idea or a bad idea?’” Crawford said, reflecting on her mixed feelings about walking in such a significant fashion event.

Crawford went on to discuss the dynamics of being a mother in the fashion world, especially as she and Gerber navigate their careers side by side. The model mentioned that being compared to her 25-year-old daughter does not bother her. However, she acknowledged that the comparisons may be more challenging for Gerber to manage. “It doesn’t annoy me at all. I love it, but I don’t know what it’s like to have a famous parent,” Crawford stated. She understands the “perks” that come with fame and also the “annoying” aspects that Gerber may have to deal with.
Despite the shadow cast by Crawford’s legacy, both mother and daughter have been able to cultivate their own separate identities in the fashion industry. The supermodel cherished moments where they both shared the runway without the expectations tied to their familial relationship. “We were both in the Versace show in 2017. I wasn’t there as Kaia’s mom, and she wasn’t there as my daughter,” Crawford noted, highlighting the significance of their individual achievements.
Further into the interview, Crawford reflected on her brief foray into acting, recalling how it was a significant learning experience. During the 1990s, she starred in films such as “Fair Game” and “54,” but soon realised that her true passion lay in modelling. “I realized in doing that film, I’m very comfortable in front of the camera being Cindy Crawford,” she explained. Her experience made it clear to her that portraying a character was not where she belonged, leading her to refocus on her modelling career.
Crawford attended the Forbes Power Women’s Summit on September 10, where she further elaborated on her view of professional growth. “I think even the things that you try and that maybe don’t succeed in the way that you hope they would, they’re still learning experiences,” she remarked. This perspective has undoubtedly shaped her career and contributed to her resilience in a constantly evolving industry.
As Crawford continues to navigate the evolving landscape of fashion and motherhood, her candidness serves as an inspiration for many. Her ability to embrace both triumphs and setbacks exemplifies the journey many women face in balancing personal and professional ambitions.
In a world where the pressure to conform to expectations is ever-present, Crawford’s insightful reflections resonate, highlighting the importance of authenticity and self-acceptance in both life and career. Her ongoing success serves as a powerful reminder that the path to fulfilment is often shaped by embracing one’s true self among life’s unexpected challenges.
