The board’s vote represents a modification to the existing naming policy that mandated a two-year waiting period after the death of an individual before any facility could be renamed in their honour. Prior discussions concerning the renaming suggested that it could incur costs upward of £10 million, with over £3.5 million dedicated to new signage and infrastructure modifications. Most of the financial burden would fall on the airport authority, which generates revenue from landing fees, parking, and terminal concessions.
