Jacqueline MacInnes Wood has been a familiar face on daytime television since she took on the role of Steffy Forrester in the popular soap opera, *The Bold and the Beautiful*, in 2008. Over the past 18 years, Wood, who relocated from Canada to Los Angeles at the age of 18, has experienced a career that exceeded her wildest dreams, as she has navigated both the demanding world of acting and the challenges of motherhood.

In a recent interview, Wood shared her thoughts on her long tenure with the series, expressing gratitude for the opportunities and experiences that have come her way. “Eighteen years later, it’s shocking, but I’m so grateful,” she remarked. Wood, now 39, has never taken for granted her time on the show or the sense of community that is a hallmark of the soap opera genre.
She explained the camaraderie among the cast and crew, noting how it pushes actors to grow and learn about themselves. Yet, the nature of soap operas demands a unique mental resilience. Actors are required to memorise large amounts of dialogue quickly, often filming multiple episodes in one day. This can create an intense atmosphere where actors must dedicate substantial focus and energy to their roles.
“Of course, when you throw yourself into the industry, it can be tough, especially in the soap world because you put yourself on screen, and people are going to nitpick you,” Wood acknowledged. Despite these challenges, she praised the rewarding aspects of her work, saying, “If you’ve got the mental fortitude and you’re strong enough to persevere, this is a wonderful job.”
Adjusting to her roles as both an actress and a mother has not been without its complexities. Wood now embraces the demands of family life, finding balance while raising five young boys, all aged between one and seven. She described this dynamic as a “beautiful dance” of shifting priorities, noting that the erratic hours of soap opera acting can sometimes be advantageous.
“Being on the show is fantastic because you can bang out a bunch of episodes,” she shared, highlighting her ability to film multiple episodes in a single day. “The most I’ve done in a day is 80 pages, six episodes in a day, a long time ago. But yeah, I do four, I can do five episodes, but it’s not every day,” she explained, emphasising that this workload does offer her more time off than other television formats.
As for her character’s evolving narrative, Wood confessed that the storyline surrounding Steffy Forrester’s current predicament — grappling with complex relationships and unexpected life changes — adds a layer of intensity to her performance. Viewers recently discovered that Steffy is pregnant and that the father of her child is not her husband, further complicating the narrative. Wood described the storyline as not just dramatic, but filled with real-life consequences reflecting the intricacies of relationships.
“It’s been a whirlwind so far, extremely challenging, but in the best way possible,” she remarked, juxtaposing her character’s fictional struggles with her own responsibilities at home. Still, amid the chaos, Wood finds joy in her time spent with her children. Referring to her transition from acting to motherhood, she said, “I think it’s not going to be the perfect balance. It’s about memorising a monologue for five minutes, and then switching gears, and being like, ‘Okay, now I’m going to play hide and seek.’”
In an industry that demands perpetual adaptability, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood embraces the duality of her life with each role she undertakes, both on-screen and off. As she continues to navigate her path, she remains committed to her craft while cherishing the moments dedicated to her family, crafting a life that is both fulfilling and vibrant.
As the world of soap operas evolves, it is clear that Wood’s dedication to her role and her family will continue to shape her journey in the years to come. She stands as a testament to the resilience and passion that defines both the entertainment industry and parenthood.
