Joe Amabile, a familiar face from reality television, is shedding light on his recovery journey following surgery for a brain tumour. In an Instagram video posted on 6 September, the 40-year-old reflected on the complexities of his healing process, which has been marked by both progress and setbacks since the operation in August to remove a low-grade astrocytoma.

Sharing his experiences, Amabile expressed that while he is largely doing well post-surgery, not every day has been smooth sailing. “It’s been four and a half weeks since my surgery. Overall, I’m doing wonderful, but there are certainly challenges I face,” he stated, highlighting the emotional and physical hurdles that accompany his recovery.
One major issue Amabile has encountered is overstimulation. “If I spend too much time on social media or watch television for too long, I begin to feel lightheaded,” he explained, noting that these episodes often require him to retreat to his bedroom to recover in a quieter, darker environment. This sensitivity has prompted him to be more mindful about his media consumption and activities.
Amabile also mentioned difficulties with social interactions, revealing he has been cautious about re-engaging with friends and family. Although he wishes to return to his social life, he has approached outings with hesitation. “I’ve been on the more cautious side,” he shared, indicating that his current mental state has made socialising a daunting task.
Anxiety, a longstanding issue for Amabile, has intensified since his diagnosis. He admitted that reading about his specific tumour triggers stressful reactions. “Anytime I read anything about the tumour, my hands sweat, and I feel anxious,” Amabile confessed, adding that he sometimes feels like his old self but other times struggles to cope.
Despite these challenges, he acknowledged a tendency to push himself too hard. “I tend to overdo it. I’m an over-doer,” Amabile admitted, revealing that he sometimes finds it difficult to pace himself as he navigates recovery. This self-awareness reflects his commitment and determination to restore his health, though he is cognisant of the need for balance.
Sleep has emerged as another critical component of his healing process. Historically able to function with little rest, Amabile is now learning the importance of prioritising sleep as part of his recovery. “My sleep is really important,” he stated, recognising that without adequate rest, his body struggles to heal.
The journey toward recovery began after Amabile underwent a full-body MRI scan, during which the tumour was discovered. His wife, Serena Pitt, has noted that the medical team successfully removed the entire tumour and that Amabile’s recovery is on the right track. However, he has reminded his followers that even after the surgery’s success, the effects of the tumour will be a long-term aspect of his life.
As he continues to navigate through these ups and downs, Joe Amabile’s candid revelations serve as a reminder of the complexities of recovery from serious health issues. His openness about physical and emotional challenges offers insights into the often-unseen realities of healing, encouraging others facing similar circumstances to acknowledge their struggles while striving to move forward.
Overall, Amabile’s story highlights the delicate balance between progress and setbacks during recovery, emphasising the importance of self-care and the need for support during difficult times. As he continues his journey, he remains a source of inspiration and hope for those battling health challenges, reminding them that it is okay to take things one step at a time.
