Instead of seeking romance, this pair were initially focused on fulfilling the travel aspirations of their deceased spouses, but a detour in Versailles set their hearts on an unexpected journey.

Both originating from different parts of the United States, Boye, 72, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Kruczek, 74, from Austin, Texas, met on a 12-day guided tour titled “France Magnifique.” They were both participants of the Marriott Vacation Club’s Collette Tours, which offers global travel packages that utilise the vacation points accumulated during their marriages. This was a way for them to reconnect with the world after the loss of their partners.
Boye had been married for over four decades before his wife passed away from breast cancer in 2022, while Kruczek lost her husband in 2013. Their shared experience of grief established an unspoken bond, even before their romantic connection began to blossom. “I wasn’t looking for anything romantic,” Boye stated, reflecting on how love often finds one unexpectedly.
The trip commenced typically, with participants gathering for an overview from the tour director. Boye noticed Kruczek sitting among friends and found her appealing; however, he simply filed the thought away. As the tour unfolded, they found themselves enjoying dinners at the same table, gradually deepening their conversations.
A pivotal moment occurred at Mont-Saint-Michel, the iconic island off the coast of Normandy, known for its stunning abbey. Amid complications in securing tickets, an agitated Kruczek confronted her frustration while waiting for guiding tablets. “I don’t need a tablet. I’m just gonna go. Do you want to come with me?” she boldly invited Boye. The two ventured off together and explored the site independently, creating a memorable shared experience that solidified their connection.
From Mont-Saint-Michel onwards, they consistently sought each other out for excursions, and during a final dinner at the Eiffel Tower, they realised how much they had in common. Amid conversations, Boye revealed that it was the second anniversary of his wife’s passing, prompting an exchange of personal stories about their lost spouses. This led to a significant understanding of each other’s life’s journey, fostering a deeper emotional connection.
As their time in France came to an end, they exchanged phone numbers under the pretext of sharing photos. “We eventually began texting songs to each other,” Boye said, reflecting on how their communications evolved into something more romantic. Their connection grew after a visit where Kruczek hosted Boye in Austin, sparking plans for additional travel together.
In September 2025, their relationship blossomed further on another tour, this time to Italy’s picturesque Amalfi Coast. By this point, they had decided to tie the knot, opting for a proposal at the breathtaking Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, a stunning cliffside location that matched their romantic journey.
April 2026 marked the beginning of a new chapter for Boye and Kruczek as they exchanged vows, celebrating their union with a honeymoon in Barcelona. Their approach to travel together is grounded in their shared outlook on life, creating a blend of anticipation and joy in exploring the world.
“We both were married for a long time and have experienced the ups and downs of relationships,” Boye shared. “We are consciously making an effort to ensure we cherish this time together, honouring the happiness we would have shared with our previous spouses.”
