**Horizon Organic Dairy Issues Major Recall Over Packaging Fault in Chocolate Milk**

Horizon Organic Dairy, LLC has announced a significant recall affecting over 53,000 cases of its organic chocolate milk due to concerns regarding potential spoilage linked to a packaging defect. The recall comes amidst rising consumer awareness about product safety and quality standards.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that the recall was voluntarily initiated by Horizon Organic on 7 August. The issue at hand stems from a problem with the packaging, which can cause the chocolate milk to spoil prematurely. The recall specifically concerns two product sizes: 12-count and 18-count cases of Horizon Organic Shelf-Stable (Aseptic) 1% Chocolate Milk, each carton containing 8 fluid ounces. The company has recalled 34,524 cases of the 12-count and 19,236 cases of the 18-count, bringing the total to 53,760 cases affected.

Consumers are advised to check the best-by dates on their packaging. The affected 12-count cases have best-by dates ranging from 28 January 2027 to 3 February 2027. For the 18-count cases, the relevant dates fall between 31 January 2027 and 2 February 2027. The specific UPC codes for consumers to reference are 742365002700 for the 12-count and 742365208867 for the 18-count boxes.

In light of the recall, Horizon Organic urges customers who have purchased the affected products not to consume them. Instead, they should reach out to the company’s customer relations team to facilitate the process of obtaining a refund.

The recent recall follows a similar incident earlier this year when Horizon Organic recalled 3,522 cases of Organic Milk 1% DHA Chocolate. Those products, distributed in states including Arizona, California, Nevada, and Oregon, had best-by dates of 14 and 15 August 2026.
