Taetzch and Higgins, both residents of the Cedar Crest Senior Living Community in Pompton Plains, were last seen embarking on a hike at Pyramid Mountain on August 30 at around 1:00 p.m. local time. Their disappearance raised concerns, prompting a thorough investigation that mobilised various local law enforcement agencies. The Montville Township Police Department, along with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Kinnelon Police Department, and Montville Fire Department, collaborated to search the area.

Just over 12 hours after the alert was issued, the search teams expanded, deploying more than 30 officers to scour the rugged terrain.
