Two dogs, named Zoey and Monkey, have been safely reunited with their owner after a dramatic ordeal that saw them escape during a walk in Florida. A deputy from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) embarked on an hour-long search to locate the pair, who found themselves trapped at the bottom of a seawall.

The incident unfolded when the dogs were out for a stroll with their owner, who fell and lost her grip on their leashes, allowing the dogs to bolt off on their own. Following the incident, assistance was swiftly summoned, leading to the deputy’s involvement in the search for the runaway pups.

Zoey and Monkey made their way to a gated business located adjacent to Joe’s Creek. Unfortunately, they soon became stuck and were unable to find a route back up the seawall. Body camera footage from the deputy captures the challenging circumstances as he endeavoured to locate the animals. Initially, he could hear the dogs barking but found it difficult to ascertain their precise location.

In the footage, the deputy can be observed calling out to Zoey and Monkey, but it wasn’t until he manoeuvred through thick brush that he determined the pups were at the bottom of a ditch. The location posed significant barriers, primarily due to the wet terrain, which complicated the rescue.
After a concerted effort spanning nearly an hour, the deputy successfully navigated the bush and water, ultimately locating the stranded dogs. With careful assistance, both Zoey and Monkey were safely brought back to the top of the seawall.
Once recovered, the dogs were reunited with their owner, who expressed palpable relief upon seeing her furry companions safe and sound. Remarkably, neither Zoey nor Monkey suffered any injuries during their adventure and appeared to be in good health post-rescue.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office took to social media to share the heartwarming update alongside the body camera footage. They remarked that the escapade provided a valuable lesson for the adventurous duo, highlighting how “unsupervised adventures aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.”
This incident serves as an important reminder of the unpredictability that can accompany even the most routine activities, such as walking a pet. Authorities cautioned that locations like seawalls, drainage areas, and waterways can pose significant risks for animals that slip or wander into them. The steep or enclosed nature of these environments can make it particularly challenging for pets to escape once they become disoriented.
As the community reflects on this incident, it brings to light the importance of keeping a close eye on pets during walks, to prevent any similar situations from occurring in the future. The quick response from the local sheriff’s office not only facilitated a successful rescue but also reinforced the vital role law enforcement plays in the community beyond standard policing duties.
Ultimately, Zoey and Monkey’s adventure turned into a tale of relief and safety, emphasising the bond between pets and their owners, and serving as a reminder for all pet owners to remain vigilant during outings.
