Her granddaughter, stationed at Joint Base Andrews in Camp Springs, Maryland, had driven a considerable distance to be by her side, travelling for seven hours overnight after receiving late approval from her commanding officer to take time off.
Dyer’s journey home was not without its challenges. Speaking about her drive, she admitted, “I was tempted to pull over and go to sleep. But I’m like, ‘Okay, either you go to sleep right now or you see your grandma.’ So I picked my grandma.” Her dedication to being present for Ewers reflects the close bond shared between the two.
