Adria Arjona and Boyfriend Jason Momoa Created One Moving Detail for Her “Onslaught” Character Together

Adria Arjona and Jason Momoa’s collaborative efforts and personal relationship have come to the forefront as Arjona stars in the new action film *Onslaught*, which premiered in theatres on September 4. The film is directed by Adam Wingard and features Arjona in the role of Celeste, a single mother and Army veteran grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

In a recent interview, Arjona revealed that she and Momoa, who is also her partner, came up with a significant character detail during the creative process. They decided that Celeste’s condition would have a physical manifestation, further enhancing the emotional depth of her character. Arjona described how her character’s tremor, initially included in the script, needed an outlet to visually express her internal struggles.

Arjona explained, “Her tremor was in the script, and I was like, ‘There has to be a release. There has to be something that counteracts it.’” It was during a conversation with Momoa that the couple conceived the idea of Celeste using an old engagement ring to cope with her trauma. Whenever her PTSD prevents her from shooting accurately, she presses the ring into her forearm, creating a lasting physical reminder of her pain.

The couple added further complexity to this detail by suggesting that this ring could be an old engagement ring, symbolising the sacrifices Celeste made in her life. “To be funny, I was like, ‘Can the ring be her old engagement ring and can it be empty?’ ” Arjona recalled. This notion implied that Celeste had pawned her diamond to buy a rifle or perhaps indulge in self-destructive behaviour, deepening the character’s backstory.

Arjona sought to authentically portray the emotional turmoil experienced by many veterans. She spent time watching interviews with soldiers who had been deployed, noting that, for some, pain can become a form of comfort. “We need to showcase that pain is a big character,” she asserted, emphasising its importance in the portrayal of her character’s journey. This dedication to authenticity caught the attention of Wingard, who quickly agreed to incorporate the idea into the film, leading to the creation of a prosthetic for the character.

The budding relationship between Arjona and Momoa has captured public interest since they first got together in May 2024. The two met while working on the 2021 film *Sweet Girl*. Momoa’s divorce from actress Lisa Bonet, with whom he shares two teenagers, was finalised in January 2024, making way for his new romance with Arjona.

Momoa has openly celebrated Arjona’s achievements in her career, showing his support during the premiere of *Onslaught* in Los Angeles. He shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, captioning a video of Arjona’s grand entrance in a movie-themed monster truck with, “MI AMOR I’m so proud of you [you’re] such a badass.”

Both actors have promising future projects lined up. Arjona is set to appear in the Michael B. Jordan-led *The Thomas Crown Affair*, scheduled for release on March 5, 2027, and will also be featured in James Gunn’s upcoming sequel to last year’s *Man of Tomorrow*, which is set to hit screens on July 9, 2027.

Meanwhile, Momoa continues to stay busy with several projects, having recently starred in the DC superhero film *Supergirl*. He is also expected to feature in the adaptation of *Street Fighter*, which is set to release on October 16, and will reprise his role as Duncan Idaho in the anticipated *Dune: Part Three*, scheduled for December 18, 2027.

As *Onslaught* hits cinemas, it promises a blend of action and emotional depth, while the collaboration between Arjona and Momoa adds an intriguing layer to the film’s narrative.
