According to a study involving over 17,000 participants, individuals with elevated blood levels of xylitol exhibited a 57% increased risk of major cardiovascular events within a six-year period, and this risk further extended to an 18% increase after three decades. Dr. Marco Witkowski from Charité University Hospital in Berlin, who presented the research, remarked on the implications of the findings. He noted that previous studies had already indicated xylitol’s ability to enhance platelet clot formation, which could explain its association with cardiovascular risks. In this latest investigation, researchers sought to determine if these risks persisted in a broader, more diverse population over a more extended time frame.
