**Mango Recall Issued in Multiple States Over Salmonella Concerns**

In a precautionary move, Panorama Produce has initiated a recall of approximately 302 boxes of size nine mangoes due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The announcement, made on 28th August by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affects mangoes sold in select Walmart stores across Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

This recall pertains to mangoes that were available for purchase between 10th and 21st August. Consumers who bought these mangoes should be on high alert and check their labels to ensure they do not possess the affected product.

The recalled mangoes were packaged under the Martina brand, featuring a light blue sticker that reads “Agrofepac, Produce of Mexico”. Each mango carries a product lookup number (PLU) of 4584 and a Universal Product Code (UPC) of 07503061948050. As of the announcement period, no illnesses had been reported in connection to the products in question.

The FDA has stated that the recall was prompted by the detection of Salmonella during routine testing of mangoes from the same farm, although those specific samples were not distributed within the United States. Salmonella is a bacterial organism that can lead to severe health complications, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Salmonella is a leading cause of foodborne illness in the United States, resulting in approximately 1.35 million infections annually. Symptoms of infection may include fever, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, with the potential for more severe complications if the bacteria enters the bloodstream.
