Former television star Jason Dohring has taken a significant turn in his career, trading in Hollywood for the fields of Florida. The actor, best known for his role as Logan Echolls in the iconic teen drama *Veronica Mars*, shared his unexpected journey towards farming during a recent appearance on the *Don’t Do Nothing* podcast.
The shift to agriculture is closely linked to the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Dohring, now 44, revealed that the lockdowns spurred his interest in gardening, which started around three and a half years ago. “I got into gardening, and I was like, ‘Dude, this is so cool,’” he recounted, noting that he was so engrossed in his new hobby that he was largely unaware of the pandemic’s impact in those early months.
Over the past few years, Dohring’s infatuation with gardening blossomed into a full-fledged pursuit of farming. Currently, he operates his third farm, where his primary goal is to cultivate healthy food for the community. “I really realized that people are getting sick from the food that they’re eating,” he explained, highlighting the importance of fresh produce and the ability of farmers to influence the flavour and quality of crops.
Having embraced this simpler lifestyle, Dohring concluded that he might take a break from acting indefinitely. “I told my agents, ‘I’m just gonna go farm for a minute,’” he said, adding that they were supportive but still wanted him to consider acting opportunities. He expressed his intention to possibly return to the screen in the future but is currently focused on his newfound passion.
Reflecting on his time with *Veronica Mars*, Dohring spoke fondly of the cast and crew who contributed to the show’s success. He expressed pride in being part of a project that introduced many talented individuals to the industry. The series has been a launching pad for numerous actors, including the well-known Jessica Chastain and Armie Hammer. “We had a cast, and we all came out of high school,” he remarked, appreciating the level of talent assembled for the show.
Among the notable guest stars during the series was Paris Hilton, who played Dohring’s girlfriend for a couple of episodes. Dohring recalled her as “very, very smart” and acknowledged her impressive career, reflecting on their time together with a sense of nostalgia and admiration. He completed work on a short film recently and is embracing opportunities within the industry that align with his new priorities. “I want to grow food for 5,000 people and ultimately help people, in whatever way, whether it’s farming, gardening, education, art—I just love it,” he shared, emphasizing his desire to make a positive impact through his endeavours.
Though Dohring’s last television appearance came in 2021 on the series *SEAL Team Six*, his acting credentials extend beyond *Veronica Mars*. He has also featured in various shows such as *iZombie*, *Bluff City Law*, and *All Rise*. His varied experiences in both farming and acting illustrate a versatile career, yet it is in the soil where he seems to find his greatest fulfilment.
