A distressing incident occurred just two hours before a wedding in Vaughan, Ontario, when Rachael Quinn discovered that her bridesmaid dress had gone missing. The 27-year-old, who was preparing for her sister’s special day on 8 August, launched a desperate search for her light pink gown, leading to an emotional rollercoaster and a scramble against the clock.

Upon arriving at the wedding venue, Quinn realised that the garment bag containing her dress was not in her possession. She explained to PEOPLE, “When I was looking around the room, I realised my dress bag wasn’t there. Everyone — my family, the maid of honour, boyfriends, husbands, bridesmaids, the photographer — started to look everywhere.” Unfortunately, their frantic efforts bore no fruit, and it became clear the dress was not at the venue.

Reflection on the matter led Quinn to recall that the last time she had seen her dress was in a rented party room at her sister’s apartment building, which had hosted the bridal party while they prepared for the ceremony. Due to the shared nature of the building, she noted, there were many individuals who could potentially be behind the disappearance of her gown. “The room was connected by three other buildings shared by thousands of people, making for a lengthy suspect list,” she said.
As the clock ticked forward, the bridal party realised they were falling behind schedule at 12:30 p.m. They made a collective decision to steam all the dresses before donning them at the venue to ensure they would be on time for the family photos. On her way back to the party room to collect the steam-dried dresses, Quinn even managed to snap a mirror selfie in the elevator while carrying her dress bag at 12:47 p.m.
However, disaster struck when Quinn had to make a second trip back to her sister’s place, inadvertently leaving her dress behind. “My dress was hanging in the room and just unfortunately did not get picked up,” she recounted, noting that it was simply a case of poor timing amid the chaotic preparations.
Once the time was approaching 2 p.m. and after an unsuccessful search of the venue and a phone call to the Uber driver, who confirmed nothing had been left in his vehicle, it was clear that the situation was dire. In an attempt to trace the dress’s whereabouts, Quinn contacted the security team at her sister’s building, who also confirmed the garment was missing from the party room.
Quinn, drawing from her background in the fashion industry, immediately remembered that an upscale boutique called White Cherry Boutique was situated nearby. She quickly made her way there, explaining her predicament to a staff member named Victoria. “They deserve all the praise,” Quinn remarked, as the team rushed to assist her in finding a replacement dress. In a stroke of serendipity, she discovered the last dress on the rack — a blue gown, which she cheekily referred to as something blue.
With time slipping away, Quinn dashed back to the wedding venue and managed to change into her new attire, touching up her makeup just in time for the family photographs. “The other bridesmaid, maid of honour, my family and boyfriend all quickly stepped into action so we wouldn’t make it a big issue and ruin my sister’s day,” she said.
Following the event, Quinn took to TikTok to share her experience. Her initial post describing the predicament went viral, receiving an astonishing 7.5 million views, while her follow-up story attracted about 400,000 views. Engaging with the many comments and suggestions, Quinn expressed her frustration regarding the speculation that suggested someone within her circle might be responsible for the theft. “I stand on 10 toes when I say it was no one in my personal life,” she reiterated.
Notably, many viewers offered their opinions on the blue dress, praising it as a suitable substitute to the original pink gown. Despite the compliments, Quinn was adamant that stealing a dress did not warrant any form of leniency or praise. She expressed her feelings to PEOPLE, stating, “I will never give this person who stole it the power of ‘saving the day’ because they don’t deserve that power. They caused so much unnecessary stress.”
Quinn firmly stated that her family and the support from White Cherry Boutique were the true heroes of the day. “Karma will do its job,” she concluded, emphasising the significant impact of the theft on her emotions and the hectic day that was meant to celebrate her sister’s love story.
As the investigation into the theft proceeds, Quinn remains hopeful for justice while also appreciating the kindness shown by those around her during a challenging time.
