A senior pit bull named Baby, who is currently in hospice care, has had her means of mobility stripped away after her specialised wheelchair was stolen from the porch of her rescue centre in Florida. The incident has sparked outrage and prompted a significant response from the local community, highlighting the compassion people have for animals in need.

Baby, who relies on a pink wheelchair valued at approximately £800, belonged to The Pittie Party of Central Florida. According to the rescue organisation, the customised device was taken on August 22, leaving the elderly dog unable to walk independently. The rescue centre took to social media to express their dismay, questioning the motives of those who would target a wheelchair belonging to a disabled animal.
“How could someone steal from a disabled, senior dog?” asked The Pittie Party in a heartfelt post. “Baby is one of our hospice residents and she cannot walk without her chair. Now she has nothing.” The wheelchair is specifically tailored to accommodate Baby’s unique needs, making it critical for her mobility and overall well-being.
Without her chair, Baby struggles to manage basic bodily functions, including going to the bathroom. The rescue group pointed out the severe challenges she faces in her everyday life as a result of the theft. “Without this chair, holding her is exceptionally difficult,” they explained, underscoring the necessity of the device not just for mobility, but for her dignity as well.
In an effort to locate the stolen wheelchair and identify the perpetrator, the St. Cloud Police Department has asked the public for assistance. They shared contact information for reporting tips, seeking any leads that might help Baby regain her much-needed mobility.
In addition to seeking the chair’s return, The Pittie Party launched a fundraiser aimed at replacing the wheelchair and providing for Baby’s ongoing medical expenses. They encouraged supporters to contribute, emphasising that her health and mobility significantly depend on acquiring a new chair. “We appreciate any amount,” the organisation stated in their plea for support.
Fortunately, hope emerged when a generous organisation named Ruck9 announced that they had ordered a new pink wheelchair for Baby, just days after the original was stolen. “We were notified that Ruck9 has shipped a new wheelchair for Baby,” The Pittie Party announced on August 25, expressing their immense gratitude to the community for rallying around Baby during this challenging time.
For those individuals who had donated specifically towards a replacement wheelchair, the rescue has offered to refund contributions, allowing donors to decide whether they wanted their money returned or if they would prefer it be allocated towards Baby’s ongoing care.
As the situation developed, The Pittie Party made it clear that Baby is not just one dog among many in need; she is part of a wider group of hospice dogs that require significant support. They mentioned their ongoing financial struggles due to rising costs, reinforcing the importance of donations to ensure the survival and care of their rescue dogs.
Despite the hurdles, the rescue remains dedicated, highlighting that while the work they do is financially demanding, the emotional rewards make it worthwhile. “It’s a huge, lengthy commitment, but worth it,” they stated, affirming their unwavering commitment to helping animals in need.
In the meantime, the organisation kept Baby’s supporters updated, sharing videos of her enjoying her time on a comfortable bed, and maintaining an optimistic outlook as they awaited the arrival of her new wheelchair. They expressed heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming support from the community, which has played a key role in navigating this challenging episode.
The Pittie Party of Central Florida promised to provide updates once Baby’s new wheelchair arrives, keeping her supporters engaged with the ongoing narrative of her recovery and well-being. As Baby awaits her new means of mobility, her story has brought together a community dedicated to the welfare of rescue animals, shedding light on the importance of compassion and support for those who cannot advocate for themselves.
