Masters.” In an exclusive interview with People, Jennings shared how, despite his esteemed position, he is not his wife Mindy’s preferred host.

The couple, who have been married for over two decades since 2000, shares two children: Dylan and Caitlin. In the interview, Jennings disclosed that his wife favours NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers over him when it comes to guest hosting “Jeopardy!”. “He was a solid guest host,” Jennings acknowledged, referring to Rodgers’ two-week stint in April 2021. “He was my wife’s favourite, actually.”
Intrigued by her preference, Jennings recounted a conversation with Mindy where he asked, “Honey, you know I was a guest host too.” Her response was honest and rather humorous: “Well, he’s very handsome.”
Rodgers, who has played for the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers during his career, stepped into the role of guest host following the passing of the show’s iconic presenter, Alex Trebek. In his preparation for the role, Rodgers mentioned that he immersed himself in countless episodes of “Jeopardy!” to ensure he could deliver in a manner that honoured Trebek’s legacy.
“I’m lucky that Netflix has a few seasons, and I went back to DVR,” Rodgers explained on “The Pat McAfee Show,” adding that he had to view the show from a different perspective, that of a host rather than a fan. His enthusiasm for the role was evident as he expressed willingness to make personal sacrifices, stating, “I would love to be the host of Jeopardy!, yes,” even joking about the prospect of shaving if required.
In his conversation with People, Jennings also reflected on how life has changed since his initial appearance on “Jeopardy!” in 2004, a pivotal moment that altered his career path. He recounted being just shy of 30 years old, content yet unfulfilled in his role as a computer programmer. At that time, he and Mindy had welcomed their first child and had purchased a modest home near Salt Lake City.
“It was going okay,” Jennings recalled of his job as a programmer, “The only thing is I didn’t love my job. I wasn’t a very good programmer.” Mindy encouraged him to consider his long-held dream of becoming a mural painter, creating delightful designs for children’s spaces. However, fate took an unexpected turn as Jennings went on to find success as a contestant on his favourite game show.
He mused about the alternate paths his life could have taken, humorously contemplating, “There is a world out there where maybe I’m painting Winnie the Pooh murals in a daycare centre somewhere.”
The dynamics of parenting in the Jennings household also featured prominently in the conversation. Jennings playfully mentioned that his prestigious role as the host of “Jeopardy!” gives him a distinct advantage in parenting his children. “Weirdly, [my job] gives me a bit of a parenting advantage,” he observed. “Like, if you’re the host of Jeopardy!, your kids will believe you when you try to parent.” His wife, however, often feels overshadowed by this newfound authority. “She’ll be like, ‘I just said that same thing. Why are you believing Dad?’ And they’re like, ‘Host of Jeopardy!’”
