Son Fatally ‘Thumped’ Dad with an Ax and Claimed Victim Had Asked Him to Kill Him

A Utah man has been found guilty of murdering his father following a harrowing series of events that unfolded over the course of a single night in April 2024. Jeremy Pulver, the 44-year-old son of the victim, John Pulver, was convicted of first-degree murder and various related offences earlier this week, according to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.

John Pulver, aged 72, was discovered deceased in his home in West Valley City on April 26, 2024, by his caregiver Patricia Lopez-Nunez. The grim scene revealed evidence of a violent struggle, with brain matter found on the victim’s pillow and around his head.

The investigation commenced after Jeremy placed a call to Lopez-Nunez, reportedly confessing to the act of killing his father. As per court documents reviewed by a local publication, Jeremy stated that on the night prior to John’s death, his father had expressed a desire to end his life, citing his struggles with old age as a contributing factor. He alleged that John had persistently begged him to assist in ending his life.

The sequence of events leading to John’s death involved Jeremy attempting to suffocate his father using various methods, including putting a plastic bag around his head and stuffing a cloth in his mouth. However, the situation escalated when Jeremy, upon checking on his father the following morning, discovered that John was still alive. This prompted him to act on his earlier decision, stating that he resolved to “do what [John] wants me to do”.

In a disturbing account to the authorities, Jeremy recounted that when he attempted to suffocate John, the elderly man fought back with unexpected vigour. Jeremy described him as fighting “like a ‘ninja’”, prompting a drastic response. He told police that he then procured a hammer from his home, inflicting multiple blows to John’s head as he resisted.

Following the attack, Jeremy left the residence before returning later to find his father had succumbed to his injuries.
