Joe Amabile, widely recognised as “Grocery Store Joe” from the reality television series “The Bachelor,” has made a remarkable recovery merely two weeks after undergoing brain surgery. On 20 August, the 40-year-old shared his exhilarating experience of going for a 3.5-mile run, declaring he had received medical clearance to resume physical activity just 15 days post-operation.

Amabile took to Instagram to document his first run, showcasing his determination and progress in his recovery journey. In a video shared with his followers, he can be seen stretching outdoors prior to his workout. Accompanying the footage, he wrote, “If you’re looking for a little inspiration this morning I just ran 3 and half miles only 15 days after my brain surgery.” His light-hearted tone continued as he reassured fans, “Wish me luck,” and added, “And don’t worry, I was medically cleared.”

The operation came as a result of Amabile being diagnosed with a low-grade astrocytoma, a relatively rare form of brain tumour. The diagnosis was made following a full-body MRI scan with the medical company Prenuvo. On 12 August, he expressed his optimism about the recovery process, indicating that his pain management had improved significantly and he was relying less on medication as he healed.
During this challenging time, Amabile has shared insights about his condition, stating that his prognosis appears “fairly good.” While discussing his diagnosis, he stated, “They don’t know what’s left over,” referring to the potential complications arising from malignant brain tumours. This has led him to adapt to a new treatment plan involving daily medication aimed at managing the remaining cancerous cells. “I will be going on treatment, which is just a pill every day for the rest of my life to put the bad cells to sleep,” he said.
The couple’s transparency about Amabile’s health journey has resonated with their followers. In a podcast episode of “Not Married to This,” Amabile and his wife, Serena Pitt, spoke about their determination to remain positive through this ordeal. “I do believe going into this positive and with a positive mindset and keeping my stress levels low is the best thing I could do for my health in this current moment,” Amabile reflected, highlighting the importance of maintaining a hopeful outlook.
Pitt added that they intend to raise awareness around personal health advocacy, encouraging others to ask questions and remain vigilant with their health. “We hope that you guys take away from this to advocate for yourself, ask questions. You know, health is never something to mess around with,” she emphasised, reflecting on the gravity of the situation while also showcasing their resilience.
In sharing their experience, Amabile and Pitt aim to inspire others who may be facing similar challenges. Since his diagnosis, Amabile has cultivated a support network through social media, allowing fans to follow along with his recovery. His posts have been met with an outpour of support and well wishes, reflecting the community built around his public persona.
As Amabile resumes his active lifestyle, this chapter serves as a poignant reminder of the unexpected journeys life can take. With continuous updates on his health and fitness, Amabile reinforces the importance of early detection, awareness, and the power of a positive mindset. As he embraces his newfound normalcy, both he and his followers are reminded of the strength it takes to overcome adversity.
