Robinson was on a flight to Kelowna, British Columbia, to celebrate her milestone birthday with family when disaster struck in the form of wildfire smoke, which prompted the flight to turn back to Calgary.

After a brief meal at the airport, during which they learned that future flights would not be an option, Sedmak decided to rent a car. It was at this point that he suggested inviting Robinson to join them on the road. “I really didn’t want to spend the night in Calgary or go back to Saskatoon,” Robinson explained, and without hesitation, she agreed to embark on the spontaneous road trip. Before taking the leap, however, she texted her family to inform them of her plans, trusting in the two men she had just met.
