The announcement, made on 18th August, was accompanied by the cover art for the album, which features a striking image of Wolf smiling while playfully covered in mud. Reflecting on her journey, Wolf expressed, “I feel like I’ve crossed into a new phase of life because of this album.” She continued by sharing her feelings during the creation process, stating, “I literally felt like I was covered in s—. And now, at the end of the album process, I feel so clean and clear. It has been a very cleansing record to make for me.”

Wolf’s first single from *Mud*, titled “Twiggy”, was released on 31st July. The track was initially introduced live during her performance with Hayley Williams at the Newport Folk Festival. A vibrant music video featuring the artist alongside Cole Preston, drummer for Wallows, accompanied the single’s release, injecting further excitement into her fans.
The forthcoming second single, “Bottle”, is scheduled to be released on 20th August. Fans eagerly await to hear more, as Wolf has crafted this album through a period of introspection that followed a schedule filled with touring and creative work. This reflective process began in Nashville and continued in Big Bear, where she collaborated closely with a group of associates: Jared Solomon, Jack DeMeo, Jamie McLaughlin, and Gigi Grombacher. Wolf described their collaborative effort as akin to forming a “family band,” emphasising the strong bonds created throughout their joint artistic journey.
The recording sessions alternated between serene backdrops, such as Big Bear, and the buzzing creative environment of Electric Lady Studios in New York City. This varied approach not only enriched the album’s sound but also allowed for a broader exploration of different musical styles and influences.
Wolf’s previous album, *Big Ideas*, released in July 2021, was lauded as a “coming-of-age album” where she navigated significant changes in her life, including her journey toward sobriety. At the time, she remarked on the tumultuous nature of her twenties, expressing the challenges of self-discovery and the quest for balance in her personal and professional life. “I was thinking a lot about that,” she said, reflecting on the complexity of relationships and individual aspirations.
With *Mud*, Wolf aims to continue that exploration, delving deeper into her evolving identity as an artist. The excitement surrounding the album’s release is palpable among her growing fanbase, who eagerly anticipate the new music and the stories behind each track.
As the release date approaches, Remi Wolf’s *Mud* is shaping up to be a pivotal chapter in her musical career, one that promises to highlight not only her artistic growth but also her personal evolution. With her artistic vision ever-expanding, fans can expect to see a fresh and invigorating side to Wolf’s music that resonates on multiple levels. Whether through her energetic singles or reflective lyrics, Wolf seems poised to captivate audiences once more with her unique sound and heartfelt storytelling.
