Former NHL star Brooks Laich and Icelandic CrossFit champion Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir celebrated their wedding on August 15, at their picturesque home in Idaho. The couple’s special day was marked by a three-day celebration that brought together 110 guests, including family, friends, and their 10-month-old daughter, Emberly, as well as their pet husky, Koda.

The festivities commenced with a vibrant welcome party, where attendees gathered for an evening of games and toasts. This initial event was held at Elk Point, a stunning estate on Potlatch Hill, overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding mountains. Guests arrived dressed in floral patterns and bright colours, creating a relaxed atmosphere as they mingled to break the ice before the main event.
Laich and Davíðsdóttir, who shared their engagement in December 2024, consistently envisioned a wedding at their lakeside property, which they felt provided both beauty and flexibility for their plans. Laich undertook the task of enhancing the outdoor space, while family members found lodging in nearby homes, including those of their welcoming neighbours.

“It has been really fun and special for us,” Davíðsdóttir remarked, reflecting on what she described as a generally stress-free planning process. She emphasised her laid-back approach, stating, “We just want to be on an adventure. Whatever happens, happens.” This positive outlook extended to humorous moments, such as when she jokingly invited guests to laugh if she stumbled down the aisle.
The couple opted for an intimate ceremony, inviting only their closest friends and family, with the event planner being a personal friend. Relatives traveled from across the globe to attend, including family members from Canada, Iceland, and London, enhancing the occasion’s destination wedding feel.
On the day of the nuptials, guests were transported from town by boat, arriving at the couple’s home through a scenic journey across the lake. Once at the venue, they found beautifully arranged seating on the manicured lawn by the water’s edge, surrounded by spectacular evergreens.
During the ceremony, Laich and Davíðsdóttir exchanged heartfelt vows in front of the serene backdrop of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Laich described this moment as “one of the single greatest moments” of his life, referring to it as a “locked moment in time.” They included meaningful traditions in their ceremony, with Davíðsdóttir suggesting they already had a physical representation of their union in the form of their daughter, Emberly, who was brought down the aisle by Laich.
Emberly played a significant role in the wedding, alongside the couple’s dog, Koda, who sported a mini tuxedo, ensuring a light-hearted and joyous atmosphere throughout. Laich had previously expressed a desire to take his time with Emberly as they walked, allowing her to engage with guests during the ceremony.
Post-ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails and appetisers before gathering for dinner on unique floating barges, a delightful surprise that added an adventurous touch to the evening. The al fresco meal, illuminated under twinkling lights, featured a menu that included a seasonal peach salad and a choice of surf and turf; instead of traditional wedding cake, they opted for a local favourite, huckleberry crisp.
For dessert, guests were treated to wood-fired pizzas and an extensive candy bar, filled with sweets from both the couple’s homelands, providing an opportunity for Laich’s American friends to sample unique treats.
As the evening progressed, a checkered dance floor was set up near the couple’s garage, where a live band performed for everyone to enjoy. Laich and Davíðsdóttir shared their first dance to “I Just Love You” by Roo Panes, which also played during Laich’s proposal. Familiar with the tunes, Koda even howled along, creating a warm and familial ambiance.
The couple celebrated their love not only through dance but also through personal connections, with Davíðsdóttir having a particularly memorable dance with her 85-year-old grandfather. Laich described her grandfather as a figure of immense support, and together they chose to dance to Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” highlighting their close bond and cherished memories.
Davíðsdóttir wore a sleeveless gown by WONÁ Concept adorned with her late grandmother’s pearl jewellery, adding a sentimental touch to her bridal look. The celebrations culminated the next day with a ‘50s-themed beach brunch at the couple’s home, allowing guests to unwind by swimming, relaxing, and enjoying fresh avocado toast prepared by a personal chef.
With a whirlwind of joyous activities and heartfelt moments, the wedding of Brooks Laich and Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir brought together their worlds in a celebration of love that was not only intimate but beautifully personal.
