**Paul Bettany Set to Star in Upcoming Marvel Series VisionQuest**

Paul Bettany, a familiar face in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is gearing up to reprise his role as Vision in the upcoming series VisionQuest. The British actor, who has been part of the Marvel franchise since its inception, reflects on a time when he believed his stint with Marvel had come to an abrupt end.
During a candid conversation at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Bettany shared his surprise over what he initially thought was his dismissal from Marvel after his character’s dramatic demise in Avengers: Infinity War. “I thought I’d been fired,” he revealed, recalling the moment he was summoned by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. He admits to having entered the meeting with a quintessentially British sense of decorum, unwilling to let anyone feel at ease.
“I walked in and I was very British about the whole thing. I just wanted everybody to feel uncomfortable,” Bettany explained. In what he described as a bittersweet farewell, he conveyed his gratitude, stating, “I’ve had a great run. I don’t want there to be any hard feelings. It’s been wonderful, thank you. And you’re so great.”
However, the executives at Marvel had other plans which turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Bettany continued, “They went, ‘Wait, are you quitting?’ And I went, ‘No, you’re not firing me?’ And they said, ‘No, we’re going to pitch you a TV show.’” This unexpected turn of events paved the way for Bettany’s return to the franchise in the acclaimed series WandaVision, which premiered in 2021. Following the success of that miniseries, he is now set to lead his own show, VisionQuest.
At the D23 event, Bettany, alongside fellow actor James Spader and Feige, presented a sneak peek of the anticipated new Marvel series. VisionQuest will serve as a continuation of the narrative established in WandaVision and Agatha All Along, further exploring the complexities of the character Vision.
The synopsis for VisionQuest hints at an intriguing storyline: “Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.” As the plot unfolds, Vision is said to evade capture due to a bounty placed on his head, ultimately embarking on a journey with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may hold a significant connection to him.
In this series, Bettany’s portrayal of Vision will be enriched by the reappearance of James Spader as Ultron, a character he last voiced in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron. The cast will also feature a talented ensemble including Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, and several others, promising a diverse and engaging viewing experience.
Bettany expressed enthusiasm about returning to the character in VisionQuest, stating that the opportunity was “fantastic.” He praised series creator Terry Matalas, describing him as “thoughtful and creative,” and emphasising his ability to craft stories that are both humorous and emotionally resonant, yet devoid of excessive sentimentality.
James Spader echoed Bettany’s sentiments regarding the collaborative environment on set. “We were really able to have a lot of time to have a lot of fun with each other,” he remarked, sharing his joy throughout the filming process.
As anticipation builds for VisionQuest, fans can look forward to the series premiering on Disney+ on October 14. With Bettany’s return to the role and a fresh narrative to explore, the series is poised to enrich the already expansive Marvel universe.
