**Couple Faces Heartbreaking Choice to Rehome Puppy Amidst Family Dynamics**

Matt and Lexi, the couple behind the popular Instagram account @lulu_andtuktuk, have made the difficult decision to rehome their puppy, Rocco. The couple, who previously documented the lives of their two dogs, Lulu and Tuktuk, shared their reflections on the emotional choice with their followers, expressing the significant challenge they faced integrating a new dog into their family.
In a heartfelt post on August 9, the couple detailed their reasoning behind the decision, stating, “Are we 100% sure we made the right decision? No. And that’s probably the most honest answer we can give.” This candid admission highlights the struggle they experienced, feeling the weight of their choice on both an emotional and practical level.
The couple began their journey with Rocco after taking him from a litter birthed by Tuktuk, who was initially intended as a breeding dog. With the original owners retaining breeding rights, the couple decided to keep Rocco as a companion. They described their first encounters with the puppy as love at first sight, referring to him as “playful, extremely smart, lovable and incredibly cuddly.”
However, the transition from two dogs to three proved to be more challenging than anticipated. While Tuktuk appeared to tolerate Rocco, the couple reported that Lulu struggled to adjust to the change. As the days went by, it became clear that the desired dynamic among their pets was not materialising.
Recognising the need for professional insight, they consulted a trainer who had experience with both Lulu and Tuktuk. The trainer conducted an in-home assessment and delivered some harsh assessments that led Matt and Lexi to reconsider their motives. They realised they were torn between wanting to make the situation work for the dogs versus the difficulty of parting with Rocco.
Given the circumstances, they ultimately chose to place Rocco in a new home with a young couple who also have a Staffordshire bull terrier named Kaia. The couple expressed their relief and joy in seeing Rocco flourishing in his new environment, stating that Kaia immediately bonded with him, playing the role of both teacher and companion.
“We’ve received daily updates, and Rocco is happy. He’s loved,” they noted, sharing their comfort in knowing he had found a loving family. This newfound peace allowed Matt and Lexi to feel reassured about their decision, even in the midst of their initial heartache.
While Rocco has been rehomed, the couple reassured their supporters that they would continue to share memories of him on their social media platforms. They explained that due to pre-scheduled content, followers would still see various moments involving Rocco in the weeks to come. “That’s been really hard, but we also know that with time we’ll probably want to keep sharing some of the memories we have with him, because they’ll always be incredibly special to us,” they stated.
