Tyler Hynes, a popular figure among Hallmark fans, recently shared insights into the intriguing process of creating his very own Christmas ornament at a special event marking the Hallmark Channel’s 25th anniversary. The panel, which took place on 4 August at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, featured Hynes alongside other Hallmark stars and was hosted by PEOPLE’s Breanne L. Heldman.

Hynes, known for his roles in Hallmark films such as “I’ll Be Seeing You,” humorously described the experience of creating the ornament as both “disturbing” and “lovely.” He noted the unique challenge of seeing his own likeness repeatedly during the design process. “I never had to look at myself so much. It was a disturbing experience,” he quipped, but quickly added, “It was lovely.”

During the panel discussion, Hynes elaborated on his collaboration with Hallmark artists and executives, including Darren Abbott, President of Hallmark Media. He expressed his appreciation for the seamless process they shared in crafting the ornament. “It was a really lovely, seamless process of figuring out how their process works and how I can be of service, and find something that might be interesting and maybe useful,” he said.
The ornament, which is currently available for pre-sale on Hallmark’s official website, features Hynes’ face adorned with festive elements. Among these are a candy cane positioned behind one ear and tiny brass charms symbolising his dog Rusty James and his annual “Boot Shot Tradition.” Hynes noted that reaching the final design was no easy task, as it took several iterations to get it just right.
“I have three versions of the ornament on my phone. If you guys were to see these…” he began, teasing the audience before being interrupted by actress Nikki DeLoach, who playfully requested to see them. Hynes continued, “One, I looked like Andrew Walker’s jaw. Way more chiseled than I could ever achieve. And then the other swung the other direction.”
The challenges of creating a likeness in ornament form did not end there. Hynes recounted a debate with Hallmark regarding whether to represent him in a full-body format, akin to Lacey Chabert’s ornament from the previous year, or to focus solely on his face. His hands-on involvement in the ornament’s production drew light-hearted praise from fellow Hallmark star Andrew Walker, who noted Hynes’s dedication, suggesting he was even involved in the packing and shipping of the ornaments.
Aside from the ornament, Hynes is also preparing for the premiere of his upcoming Hallmark film, “The Nights Before Christmas,” set to debut during the 2026 Countdown to Christmas event. He revealed that the film takes inspiration from his appreciation for classics like “Groundhog Day” starring Andie MacDowell and the “Back to the Future” trilogy with Michael J. Fox. Hynes expressed excitement about the project, stating that he was motivated by a desire to create something fresh and enjoyable.
Hallmark’s extensive catalogue of films, including many featuring Hynes, can currently be streamed on Hallmark+. This provides an excellent opportunity for viewers to catch up on his work ahead of the release of “The Nights Before Christmas.”
As Hallmark celebrates its legacy of feel-good television, Tyler Hynes stands out as a testament to the sentimental connection fans share with the network. His engagement in the ornament’s creation and the anticipation surrounding his new film highlight the ongoing relationship between Hallmark stars and their audience. Whether through festive décor or beloved holiday films, Hynes continues to play a significant role in bringing warmth and joy to viewers during the festive season.
