Tom Holland, the star of the highly anticipated ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ has revealed insights into the rigours of preparing for a shirtless scene in the film. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 30-year-old actor discussed his attempt at a bodybuilding dehydration method, a strategy often used to enhance muscle definition. However, Holland admitted the experience was not as effective as he had hoped and left him feeling quite grumpy.
Set to be released in theatres on 31st July 2026, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ takes place several years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ This latest installment follows Peter Parker as he navigates life without the recognition of his loved ones. Due to magical circumstances, all memories of him have been erased from the minds of his closest friends, including MJ, played by Zendaya, and Ned, portrayed by Jacob Batalon.
In the film, there is a pivotal scene where Peter meets with Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, in a Russian bathhouse. During this encounter, Yelena asks Peter to strip to confirm he is unarmed. Despite removing most of his clothing, he keeps on his underwear and Spider-Man mask. Holland spoke of his experience preparing for this scene, mentioning that he tried to withhold water the day before filming to achieve a more defined physique.
“I thought to see if it would make a difference, and the only thing it did is it just made me really grumpy,” Holland reflected, admitting that the technique did not yield the desired results. “I don’t even think it really made that much of a difference,” he added with a touch of humour.
Neither Zendaya nor Batalon was present during the filming of the bathhouse scene, leading Holland to jest about the peculiar situation. He said, “It would have been strange. We were in our underwear,” while Batalon chimed in with laughter, suggesting it would have been a comical sight. Though Zendaya missed the opportunity to work alongside Pugh during this shoot, she revealed that they reunited shortly after on the set of ‘Dune: Part Three,’ which is slated for release on 18th December.
