Barbra Streisand Set to Release Children’s Book – ‘And By the Way…’

Barbra Streisand, the iconic singer and actress, is venturing into the world of children’s literature with her upcoming book, “And By the Way…”. Slated for release in March 2024, this picture book is inspired by her deep affection for her grandchildren and explores themes of discovery, self-expression, and love.
Published by Penguin Young Readers under the Flamingo Books imprint, “And By the Way…” promises to be a delightful read for children and their families. The narrative revolves around a heartwarming relationship between a grandparent and their grandchild as they embark on a joyful day filled with playful adventures and reflect on some of life’s essential truths.
Streisand expressed her excitement for the project in a statement to PEOPLE, highlighting her cherished role as ‘Gamma Barbra’ to her three grandchildren. “One of our favourite activities is reading picture books together — sometimes the same ones over and over again! So, I thought it would be fun to write my own book… for them… and hopefully, for other parents and grandparents to read to their little ones!” she shared.
The title “And By the Way…” is one that Streisand uses frequently, suggesting that there are always additional thoughts to express. She hopes to communicate a message of discovery, self-reliance, and love through the book. “The message is one of discovery, self-expression, self-reliance and of course, love,” she elaborated. Paige Keiser’s illustrations accompany the text, bringing the story to life with her unique artistic flair.

Streisand, now 84, has been married to actor James Brolin since 1998. Through Brolin’s family, she has been blessed with four grandchildren. Brolin shares two children, Trevor and Eden, from his first marriage, while he is also a stepfather to his second wife’s daughter. Currently, he and Streisand enjoy time with their two young daughters, Westlyn and Chapel, who are ages seven and five, respectively.
Reflecting on her writing journey, Streisand shared a quote from the legendary Dr. Seuss, saying, “And by the way… as I was writing this book, I was reminded of an inspiring quote I once read by the brilliant Dr. Seuss. He said, ‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!’” This sentiment encapsulates the essence of “And By the Way…”, emphasising the importance of reading and learning.
