In a significant turn of events, the case of Australian model Revelle Balmain, who disappeared over 28 years ago, has drawn renewed attention after a coroner named two former associates as persons of interest. Balmain was last seen on 5 November 1994, at the age of 22, in the Kingsford area of Sydney.

At a recent inquest, New South Wales Deputy State Coroner Joan Baptie officially declared Balmain deceased. This statement reignited interest in her case and prompted a re-examination of the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. In a landmark revelation, Jane King and Zoran Stanojevic, the operators of the agency from which Balmain worked as an escort, were cited as potential suspects. Both individuals have vehemently denied any involvement in her disappearance.

For nearly three decades, the Balmain family has endured profound grief and uncertainty regarding the fate of their missing member. Suellen Simpson, Revelle’s sister, expressed the relentless pain her family has suffered since that fateful night. She stated, “For many years, our family worked tirelessly to find out what happened to my sister – but sadly both our mother and Revelle’s father, Ivor, passed away without ever knowing what happened to their little girl.”

Reports indicate that on the evening of her disappearance, Balmain had seen a client, Gavin Samer, who dropped her back at a hotel around 7 PM. She was expected to attend another engagement at 10 PM with associates of Stanojevic. However, it appears she chose to cancel those plans. Notably, Balmain was preparing to move to Japan to pursue a career in dance, adding an element of tragedy to her already mysterious vanishing.

Balmain’s absence was reported later that night, and she also failed to meet her mother the following morning. Critical to the investigation, her personal belongings—including a makeup bag, keys, and a shoe—were discovered scattered nearby on Ainslie Street. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-coloured Holden Commodore in the area, with some recalling the sound of a woman’s scream prior to the vehicle speeding away.

The recent findings from the coroner’s inquest have placed particular emphasis on Gavin Samer, who has been identified as a person of interest. Despite initial investigations primarily focusing on him, Baptie acknowledged failures in the inquiry that led to evidence being potentially overlooked. “Problems that marred this investigation through the years remained anchored to the conclusion that Mr. Samer was the only suspect,” she noted, suggesting the investigation had not fully explored all possibilities.

Following the coroner’s investigation, a reward of approximately $702,000 (£570,000) has been offered for any information that may lead to resolution of the case. The family hopes this incentive will finally provide them with closure. Suellen Simpson has been vocal about her wish for answers, stating her hope that the renewed interest will help them put Revelle to rest.

Despite the recent developments, no charges have currently been laid against King, Stanojevic, or Samer. The inquiry into Balmain’s disappearance remains ongoing, as the coroner has referred matters back to the unsolved homicide unit for further probing. The community has been stirred by the case, with many advocating for justice after so many years.
