Ashley Cherismond, a 24-year-old resident of Massachusetts, has embarked on an impressive weight loss journey that has seen her shed 140 pounds since November 2023. Cherismond’s transformation began as a personal quest for a healthier lifestyle, focusing on an activity she cherished during her youth: walking.

Originally from Queens, New York, Cherismond found her life becoming more sedentary after moving to Massachusetts during her high school years. “Walking everywhere was a big part of my life growing up,” she noted, lamenting the necessity of car travel in her new surroundings. This change, combined with a struggle against weight gain, led her to seek healthier habits. “I had tried various fad diets, but they never really worked in the long run,” she explained, reflecting on her experiences as the COVID-19 pandemic coincided with her senior year of high school, disrupting her eating habits further.
The turning point for Cherismond came in late 2023 when she weighed 356 pounds and realised the importance of taking better care of her body. “I thought about how much better my life would be if I started making changes,” she shared. Embracing this mindset, Cherismond made gradual lifestyle adjustments, which culminated in her undergoing gastric sleeve surgery in 2024. While she credits this procedure as a valuable tool for her weight loss, she emphasises that the main contributor to her success has been increasing her physical activity through walking.
Cherismond’s journey took shape as she began exploring local trails around her neighbourhood, using social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok to document her progress. Known online as Ashley Paradise, Cherismond produced videos of her nature walks, sharing her insights and experiences to inspire others. “Walking trail videos helped with weight loss, but they were also a way for me to explore the state I’d been living in for so long,” she recalled.
One particularly memorable hike took place at Ames Nowell State Park in Abington, Massachusetts. Cherismond described it as “breathtaking,” with vibrant greenery, sunlight reflecting on the water, and picturesque waterfalls. “That experience motivated me to see what else is out there,” she added, underlining her desire to showcase the natural beauty of Massachusetts to fellow residents.
Cherismond’s online presence began to flourish, with her followers actively engaging and sharing their hiking recommendations in the comments. “People flooded the comments with suggestions,” she remarked, highlighting the supportive community that formed around her journey.
Having lost a substantial amount of weight, Cherismond has shifted her focus away from specific weight targets. “I don’t have a goal weight; instead, I focus on how I feel and look overall,” she stated. Her experiences have led her to encourage others interested in improving their health. “You don’t need to undertake drastic measures to achieve your goals. Walking is a low-effort activity that many people can do, and it can lead to significant physical changes,” she advised.
In addition to sharing her journey, Cherismond has established the Good Steps Community Walking Club, which aims to promote accountability through group walking sessions. “Walking helps hold me accountable, and sharing my journey with others motivates me even more,” she explained. Cherismond admitted that she initially undertook this journey for herself but never anticipated inspiring others in the process.
As she continues to embrace a healthier lifestyle, Cherismond exemplifies how small, consistent changes can lead to profound transformations. By combining her love for walking with community engagement, she has not only improved her own life but also inspired those around her to pursue their wellness goals. Her story serves as a reminder that impactful change can often begin with simple steps.
