Lana Condor has opened up about the demanding filming schedule of her latest project, *The Devil’s Mouth*, describing the experience as both “exhausting” and “intense.” The survival thriller, which recently premiered on Prime Video, sees Condor and her co-stars diving into harrowing underwater scenes—literally. The film features a group of fresh university graduates, portrayed by Condor, Kathryn Newton, and Gavin Casalegno, who find themselves trapped in a cave system with a threatening shark.

Reflecting on the filming process, Condor revealed just how physically taxing the project was. “You’re in the water for 12 to 13 hours a day, swimming for your life in real life — not just in movie land,” she recounted in a recent interview. The long hours spent submerged required not only a great deal of stamina but also emotional fortitude. “It was exhausting,” Condor added, underscoring the physical and mental demands of shooting intense scenes in Thailand.

At the end of each taxing filming day, Condor looked forward to one small comfort: a towel. “Every day when I finished, I was so excited to see a towel. I would just run to the towels,” she explained, relishing the moment of being dry after hours spent in the water. However, this relief was often short-lived, as the actress was reminded of her need for personal hygiene upon returning home. “I would get home and realise that I’m an adult and I have to bathe myself,” Condor laughed. “I would be like, ‘Oh my God, I have to go back into the water, into the shower again.’ It was very difficult.”
To cope with the strenuous days, Condor adopted various self-care strategies. Some evenings, she engaged in meditation, while on others, she unwound with a glass of red wine. Despite the exhaustive experience on set, Condor found herself unable to resist swimming in the waters surrounding their location. “That’s what’s so crazy… we were on location a few times and where we stayed was right on the water,” she said. “Before work, we would go for morning swims, and I’d find myself wondering, ‘Why am I choosing more water?’”
The actress further revealed her enjoyment of these early morning swims, believing it was a way to fully make the most of their stunning Thai surroundings. “You kind of have to take advantage of it,” she commented, reflecting the duality of her experience while filming a water-centric horror movie.
Condor also spoke highly of her on-screen friendship with co-star Kathryn Newton, noting that their real-life bond brought ease to their interaction. The two actresses star as best friends, and Condor feels that their strong friendship translated into their performances. She described Newton as “the best,” calling her an extraordinary talent within the movie industry. “Kathryn is a GOAT,” Condor added, using the term for “Greatest of All Time” to highlight Newton’s skills in the genre.
In turn, Newton expressed admiration for Condor, saying, “I love her. She is amazing. She’s the best — an amazing actress, powerhouse.” She emphasised how vital Condor’s support was during their time filming *The Devil’s Mouth*, stating, “It was really her and I against the world.” Newton also praised her co-star’s compelling performance, expressing that Condor’s presence brought empowerment to their work.
*The Devil’s Mouth*, with its mix of horror and survival themes, presents audiences with a gripping experience that showcases not only the physical but emotional challenges faced by the characters. The film is now available to stream on Prime Video for those eager to dive into the thrilling underwater world crafted by Condor and her talented co-stars.
