He initially sought acting opportunities and appeared on public access television in the 1980s. During this time, to support himself financially, he turned to door-to-door sales, promoting solar panel installations. Eventually, he began selling early versions of the products that would later become household names at local flea markets.
Offer’s prominence in sales led him to launch his first product-infomercial for his comedy film, “The Underground Comedy Movie,” in 1996. By cleverly marketing it on Comedy Central, he achieved considerable success, selling tens of thousands of DVDs. Recognising the potential of television as a marketing tool, he soon created a highly successful infomercial for the ShamWow, which debuted in 2007. Offer has credited his unique pitch style—combining straightforwardness with a hint of edginess—as a key reason for the product’s appeal.
However, in 2009, Offer’s rising fame took a significant hit when he was arrested in Miami following a confrontation with a sex worker. Both he and the individual involved were charged with aggravated battery, but prosecutors opted not to pursue the case. In subsequent interviews, Offer reflected on the incident, suggesting it served as a sobering moment in his life. He acknowledged the mistakes he made and expressed regret, claiming that it provided him with an opportunity for self-reflection.
In the years following this episode, Offer continued to pursue ventures in the infomercial industry while also facing personal legal challenges. He was sued by a former assistant who accused him of emotional abuse and stalking. While the outcomes of these legal issues remain unclear, they added to Offer’s controversial public image.
Despite the hurdles, he remained tenacious in his career. In 2012, he took advantage of his notoriety by incorporating humour into his promotions, even referencing his arrest in marketing campaigns for newer products. Beyond the ShamWow, he introduced several other items, including the Schticky, a reusable lint roller, and the Crank Chop, designed for effortless food preparation.
In 2013, Offer expanded his repertoire further by releasing another film titled “InAPPropriate Comedy,” which featured an ensemble cast including notable actors such as Michelle Rodriguez and Lindsay Lohan. He continued to be active on social media, sharing sketch videos and promotional content as he maintained his presence in the entertainment sphere.
In a surprising turn of events, Offer shifted his focus towards politics in 2025, announcing his candidacy for the Texas 31st Congressional District in the Republican primary. He cited motivations related to the current cultural climate and a desire to combat what he referred to as “wokeism,” framing his political move as a tribute to influential figures like Charlie Kirk.
Unfortunately for Offer, his foray into politics faced challenges as he concluded his campaign with just over 4% of the vote in the primary elections in March 2026. Adding insult to injury, he declared plans to sue the Republican Party of Texas, alleging that his nickname “ShamWow” had been removed from the ballot to hinder his recognition among voters.
Throughout these various turns in his life, Offer has kept his personal life relatively private. He was previously wed to Melody Barney, whom he met in 2012 at a popular hotel. They married in April 2014 but divorced four years later, citing irreconcilable differences. Together, they have a daughter.
