Television personality Lisa Vanderpump and her husband, Ken Todd, are rejecting any responsibility for injuries sustained by a handyman at their Beverly Hills residence. The incident, which occurred in November 2023, has resulted in a legal case as the handyman, Eric Nieto, seeks financial compensation for his injuries.

According to reports, Nieto claims he suffered significant harm from a fall while working on the couple’s property, specifically while navigating an interior stairway leading to the basement. He asserts that his foot became trapped due to hazardous conditions associated with the stairway’s maintenance. Following this alleged slip, Nieto reportedly twisted his ankle and sustained a Maisonneuve-type fracture, which has required surgery and extensive medical care.

Court documents reveal that Nieto is seeking $195,000 to cover a variety of costs. These include his medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and further treatment he may need as a result of the incident. He recounts ongoing pain and functional limitations resulting from his injuries, which could necessitate additional medical intervention in the future.
In a response filed on 22nd July, Vanderpump, 65, and Todd, 81, have firmly denied the claims brought against them, asserting that Nieto himself is to blame for the fall. Their court submission states that any negligence leading to the incident should be attributed to Nieto rather than the homeowners.
The couple’s legal team argues that the conditions described by Nieto were either evident or avoidable and thus do not constitute negligence on their part. They further assert that because they hired Nieto through an independent contractor, they are protected from liability concerning any injuries he sustained while performing his work on their home.
In light of these developments, Vanderpump and Todd are requesting that the lawsuit be dismissed outright. If the case is not dismissed, they have called for a jury trial to consider the merits of the allegations against them.
The legal discourse has attracted media attention as representatives from both sides were approached for comments, but as of yet, no official statements have been released from either Vanderpump’s or Todd’s legal counsel or from Nieto’s attorney.
Vanderpump, known for her appearances on Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise and her role in the restaurant business, continues to maintain her position amidst these legal proceedings. The drama surrounding this incident adds to a long history of public interest in her personal and professional life.
This unfolding story reflects ongoing challenges in workplace safety, particularly in informal settings where independent contractors are employed. The resolution of this case may provide insight into liability issues frequently raised in similar disputes.
As the court proceedings progress, both parties may face pressures not only from legal expectations but also from the public eye, given Vanderpump’s celebrity status. The outcome could set a precedent affecting how liability is viewed in cases involving home-improvement contractors and the responsibilities of homeowners.
The complexities of this case underscore the importance of clear contractual arrangements and safety protocols when hiring tradespeople for domestic tasks. It remains to be seen how the case will evolve and what implications it may have for homeowner responsibilities in the context of workplace safety.
