Teen Who Went Viral After Sharing Cancer Diagnosis and Inspired His Community Dies at 15

An Alabama community is mourning the loss of 15-year-old Will Roberts, who passed away after battling stage 4 osteosarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer. His mother, Brittney Battles Roberts, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, confirming that her son died on July 22, coincidentally on her birthday. In an emotional tribute, she expressed a bittersweet sentiment, stating, “What a beautiful gift that God gave me today… a celebration that there is no more cancer and Will entered into the kingdom of Heaven!”

Will, who was from Tuscaloosa, had become a beacon of hope and positivity during his struggle with cancer. His courageous spirit and faith resonated with many, leading to an outpouring of support from across the state. Governor Kay Ivey was among those who paid tribute, describing Will as “a brave young man whose courage inspired us all” in a heartfelt Facebook post.

The young boy’s journey garnered significant attention when he made a viral plea for a cure through a video posted on his mother’s Facebook page earlier this year. In April, Will spoke to local media, reflecting on the overwhelming response to his call for help, stating, “They have absolutely been amazing help. If I hadn’t gotten on there and made that video, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

Will’s father, Jason Roberts, reinforced the family’s faith during their ordeal, sharing, “Only God knows the plan. We are a very God-centered family.” He acknowledged that while the prognosis was grim, they remained hopeful, leaning on their beliefs throughout the challenging journey.

She noted, “Over the last year and a half, we have watched complete strangers become family.
