A tragic incident in Kent has left a community in mourning following a car crash that resulted in two teenage fatalities. The crash, which took place on January 3, 2023, involved 17-year-old Adam Dudzinski and his girlfriend, 16-year-old Chloe-Ann Naylor, both of whom drowned after their vehicle ended up submerged in a water-filled ditch. Only one survivor, a 16-year-old girl whose identity is protected for legal reasons, managed to escape the ordeal.
The harrowing details of the crash were revealed during an inquest held at the Kent and Medway Coroner’s Court this week. According to reports, Dudzinski was driving his Ford Fiesta with Naylor and another girl when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and overturned, plunging into icy waters near the village of Iwade in southeastern England.
Search efforts were initiated after the families of the teens reported them missing. The survivor’s father took the initiative to track her location using the Live360 cellphone app, which ultimately led to the discovery of the overturned vehicle. Despite the app’s assistance, he found it challenging to locate his daughter due to the dim conditions. Just before midnight, he was able to pinpoint her location and alerted emergency services.
Responders, including paramedics, police, firefighters, and the Coastguard, quickly arrived at the scene. Tragically, both Dudzinski and Naylor were pronounced dead upon their arrival, succumbing to the frigid waters they had fallen into. The survivor, who had been trapped in the back seat, was rescued and subsequently taken to the hospital, where she was treated and later discharged.
During the inquest, the young survivor recounted her experiences and shared poignant moments from the crash. She recalled how Dudzinski, in his final moments, repeatedly expressed regret by saying, “I am sorry, I am so sorry.” Naylor also displayed remarkable bravery by encouraging her friend to unbuckle her seatbelt, despite her own efforts to stay conscious fading.
At the time of the incident, Dudzinski was allegedly driving under conditions that were not suitable for higher speeds. It was confirmed he did not possess a valid driving licence and was uninsured at the time of the crash. Although it was determined he was likely driving too fast for the conditions, there was no conclusive evidence indicating he was exceeding the speed limit at the time of the incident.
The legal ramifications of the crash are still being considered. Officers looked to press charges against Dudzinski’s legal guardian for permitting unlicensed and uninsured driving. However, the Crown Prosecution Service stated that they would not pursue charges due to insufficient evidence.

The Kent and Medway Coroner’s Court has yet to provide further comment on the proceedings, and the incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers associated with reckless driving, particularly among young and inexperienced drivers. Emphasising safety and responsibility on the roads remains a critical focus as investigations into the events leading to the crash continue.
