Danielle Fishel, renowned for her role in the beloved television series *Boy Meets World*, has recently shared insights into her parenting journey, highlighting unexpected challenges and meaningful lessons learned since becoming a mother. In a conversation with host John Battagliese on QVC+’s series *Cart Blanche*, Fishel candidly discussed how her experiences as a mother of two have significantly impacted her personal growth and emotional regulation.

At 45, Fishel is married to comedian Jensen Karp, with whom she shares two sons: Adler Lawrence, born in June 2019, and Keaton Joseph, who arrived in August 2021. During her appearance, she explained that one of the most surprising elements of parenthood is the need to “parent herself.”

“The thing I don’t think anyone could prepare you for when you’re an involved parent is how often you have to parent yourself while parenting them,” she remarked. Fishel elaborated on this notion, explaining that triggers can arise in parenting situations, where her immediate reaction may not truly pertain to her child’s behaviour but rather stem from her own feelings.
She emphasised the importance of self-regulation, stating, “I have to talk myself through that. I have to self-regulate before I can even handle them in that situation.” This candid revelation showcases not only the emotional complexities of parenting but also highlights the necessity for parents to manage their own reactions for the benefit of their children.
In addition to her self-reflective approach, Fishel shared her philosophy on transforming challenging moments into enjoyable experiences. She firmly believes that turning difficult situations into games significantly helps to uplift her sons’ moods. “When faced with an opportunity where you can go one of two ways — either be upset or turn it into a game — just turn it into a game,” she suggested.
Her examples of reframing experiences included light-hearted scenarios, such as declaring a “crazy pajama night” when a missing set of pyjamas becomes an issue. Such playful strategies not only alleviate tension but also foster a more positive atmosphere for her children. Fellow guest Lance Bass, also a father of two, voiced his support for Fishel’s innovative approach.
Fishel has frequently been open about the challenges and joys of motherhood. Her willingness to speak candidly about her parenting journey resonates with many. In September 2025, her family, including her two sons, provided a supportive presence during her debut on *Dancing with the Stars*, where she performed alongside professional dancer Pasha Pashkov. She reflected on the emotional response of her family during her performance, noting that Jensen and her mother were visibly moved.
The pride she expressed for her children’s enthusiasm during the event highlighted their close-knit family dynamic. “They were gathering confetti and throwing confetti in the air. It was cute,” Fishel recalled, clearly cherishing those moments of familial joy.
As Fishel continues to navigate the ups and downs of parenting, her insights offer a reminder of the unique challenges that come with raising children. Balancing personal emotions while fostering a nurturing environment for her sons has become an essential part of her parenting philosophy.
Her candour and creativity serve as both inspiration and reassurance for fellow parents facing similar hurdles. As she continues to share her journey through forums such as QVC+, it’s clear that her commitment to being an engaged and thoughtful parent remains a central focus in her life.
New episodes of *Cart Blanche* air every other Tuesday on QVC+/HSN+, providing viewers with a platform to gain further insights into the lives of celebrities and their experiences beyond the limelight.
