The 25-year-old athlete was apprehended last Friday as part of a broader “Guns and Gangs investigation” conducted by the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS). He is facing charges that include possession of a firearm obtained through criminal means, possession of a loaded firearm without a proper licence, and possession of a prohibited device, among others.
According to a statement from the DRPS, Adams was one of four individuals arrested during the operation. The arrests stemmed from authorities’ pursuit of a male suspect believed to be in possession of a firearm and involved in drug trafficking. A woman was also taken into custody during the operation, which unearthed nearly 7 lbs of suspected fentanyl from a vehicle in Ajax, Ontario.
Subsequent to the initial arrests, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Pickering, Ontario, where they found a loaded firearm with a high-capacity magazine and a replica Uzi, which has allegedly been stolen from Georgia, USA. Adams reportedly turned himself in to the authorities two days later, on Sunday, July 19.
In a statement to the media, Adams’ attorney, Adam Weisberg, vehemently defended his client, insisting, “Isaiah is completely innocent in this matter. He had no knowledge of any firearm and he will be fully exonerated.” This assertion has been echoed by various outlets, with Weisberg maintaining that Adams remains unaware of any criminal activity linked to the case.
The Arizona Cardinals are aware of the situation surrounding Adams but have chosen to refrain from providing further comments. “We are aware of the situation involving Isaiah Adams,” the team stated in a press release. “Out of respect for the process, we will refrain from commenting further at this time.”
