In the emotional video, Joshua expressed his grief over the loss and explained that he was flying from Texas to Maryland to reclaim Kaylee’s body. He stated, “I am taking a flight that I never would like to take.” According to reports from TMZ, Joshua learned of the accident just after it occurred, and tragically, he was informed that Kaylee had succumbed to her injuries while being transported to a hospital.
Hailing from a family deeply rooted in the Deaf community, both Kaylee and her parents are Deaf. Four generations of Joshua’s family have embraced Deaf culture, reflecting their long-standing connection to it. Kaylee attended the Texas School for the Deaf, which expressed their sorrow in a statement following her untimely death. “It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our TSD seniors, Kaylee Hottle, tragically passed away yesterday in a car accident in Frederick, Maryland,” the school posted on Facebook. Kaylee’s journey in acting began at a young age, first drawing attention in a 2017 advertisement for the American Sign Language (ASL) translation app, Convo. Her talent caught the eye of producers from the 2017 film Kong: Skull Island, who believed she embodied the character of Jia, an orphan who forges a bond with King Kong through sign language.
In 2021, she starred alongside actors such as Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, and Eiza González in Godzilla vs. Kong, and reprised her role in the sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which debuted in March 2024. In these films, Kaylee’s character Jia is the adopted daughter of Dr. Ilene Andrews, played by Rebecca Hall, who discovers her on Skull Island.
