In a picturesque lakeside setting in Cumbria, England, Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm exchanged vows with Chris Dingwall on July 18. The celebrated singer, best known as a member of the iconic Spice Girls, donned two exquisite dresses designed by her long-time friend and fellow bandmate, Victoria Beckham.

The momentous occasion followed a civil ceremony that took place in Dingwall’s native Australia just days earlier. Chisholm, now 52, emerged in a sophisticated ivory slip dress, characterised by its elegantly draped neckline and striking low-cut back. The design drew inspiration from a previous lace cami dress that she wore during the earlier ceremony, a piece Beckham was particularly fond of, stating, “I loved it so much.”

The creative collaboration between the two friends blossomed during a casual dinner, where Beckham first learned of Chisholm’s impending nuptials. Beckham later recounted, “When I asked what she was wearing, she mentioned she had actually ordered one of my dresses but that it didn’t quite fit.” Upon discovering that the dress was not an option due to a lack of time for alterations, Beckham offered her own version as a temporary solution.

As the wedding planning developed, Beckham was eager to design a custom gown for the couple’s larger celebration. “Victoria wanted to make it much more personal to me,” Chisholm explained. With a selection of vintage lace and delicate dyeing techniques, Beckham created a stunning dress that resonated with Chisholm’s desired aesthetic. The gown featured a beautiful train, which, as Chisholm noted with a hint of humour, was partially inspired by her daughter’s wish for a dramatic flair on her mother’s special day.
In her own words, Chisholm described Beckham’s creations as “the best.” She appreciated the understated yet feminine quality of the dresses, particularly how they complemented her personal style, stating that they felt both comfortable and stylish. She reflected on the fittings in London as an emotional experience, cherishing the moments spent with Beckham and her daughter, Scarlet, as they prepared for the big day.
The romance between Mel C and Dingwall began in November 2023 when they connected through the dating app Raya. Although the couple kept their engagement under wraps prior to the wedding, Dingwall surprised Chisholm with a proposal during a holiday trip to Mallorca last July. Reflecting on the nature of their wedding, Chisholm described it as “quite low-key, relaxed, romantic and chic,” which aligned perfectly with her expectations for the special day.
Interestingly, Mel C revealed that she had not always dreamt of her wedding dress, having primarily focused on her career in music. “I was always just focused on my career — I think even relationships took a backseat for me,” she explained, alluding to the driving ambition that shaped her journey thus far. As she navigated through her 30s and early 40s, the thought of marriage seemed distant until she felt ready to embrace that chapter of her life.
Joining Chisholm on her wedding day were her fellow Spice Girls, including Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell-Horner, and Melanie “Mel B” Brown. Their presence at the ceremony underscored the enduring camaraderie and support that continues to define the bonds formed during their iconic music career together.
As a new chapter unfolds for Mel C and her husband, Chris Dingwall, the couple’s union is a testament to love and friendship, with a nod to the shared history and creativity that have marked Chisholm’s life both personally and professionally.
