Following its theatrical debut on 22 May, fans of the franchise will soon have the opportunity to enjoy the continuation of the beloved storyline from the critically acclaimed series, ‘The Mandalorian’. Available for purchase on platforms such as Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango, viewers can soon dive back into the adventures of the titular characters, including the ever-adorable Grogu, commonly referred to as ‘Baby Yoda’.

Among the exciting features included in the digital and Blu-ray editions is a series of bonus content. This will consist of behind-the-scenes featurettes, with particular attention given to the intricate puppeteering of Grogu—a character that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide since his introduction on the small screen. Interestingly, it takes a team of six skilled professionals to bring Grogu to life, each responsible for different aspects of his movements, such as his expressive eyelids and ears.

Co-writer and producer Dave Filoni shared insights in an exclusive clip, stating that one of the film’s objectives is to “push the limitations of Grogu,” who he described as a “great little actor.” The collaborative effort between the effects team and Grogu has been praised by Pedro Pascal, who portrays the lead character Din Djarin. Pascal noted that working with Grogu and the Legacy team has provided an exceptionally organic acting experience, enhancing the depth of the film’s emotional narrative.
A notable addition to the film is veteran actress Sigourney Weaver, who makes her Star Wars debut as Colonel Ward. Weaver expressed her affection for Grogu, stating, “I am in love with Grogu.” She found herself mesmerised by the character’s expressive face, declaring, “You cannot help but fall in love with that little face.” Weaver even playfully suggested that she would be willing to perform Grogu’s signature sounds for free, further reflecting the character’s immediate charm and appeal.
Set against the backdrop of the aftermath of the Galactic Empire’s fall, ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu’ follows the courageous heroes as they undertake a mission to rescue Rotta the Hutt. This quest is entwined with their pursuit for critical information regarding a target, continuing the adventurous spirit that has defined the series across its three seasons.
In addition to Pascal and Weaver, the film boasts an impressive voice cast that includes Jeremy Allen White and film director Martin Scorsese, both of whom lend their talents to various characters within the vibrant universe of Star Wars.
Fans can also look forward to audio commentary by director Jon Favreau in both the digital and Blu-ray editions, along with additional featurettes that provide a deeper understanding of the creative processes involved in bringing the film’s worlds to life.
As the July digital release date approaches, as well as the August Blu-ray launch, anticipation continues to build among Star Wars enthusiasts. The charm of Grogu alongside the gripping narratives ensures that ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu’ will remain a talking point in the community long after its release.
