Herron was hit by a vehicle that was fleeing from law enforcement last week while she was delivering an order from Subway. In her account to ABC13, she described how adrenaline propelled her to finish the task despite feeling pain from the incident shortly afterwards.

Footage captured by a local resident’s security camera depicts the moment of the collision. It shows Herron stepping out of her vehicle and preparing to hand over the food when she suddenly realised that a car – involved in a police pursuit for a burglary warrant – was heading directly toward her. “I backed up towards my car to give them room to get by, and by the time I realised what was happening, the car was right there,” she explained.
The incident, which left Herron rolling onto the hood of the fleeing vehicle, did not deter her from fulfilling her delivery obligation. Remarkably, she picked up her delivery bag after the crash and delivered the order before seeking medical attention.
“I was just trying to make sure that person got their food. I didn’t want them to think I stole it. I was just trying to get my bills paid,” said Herron, who is a mother to a four-year-old daughter. She relies on her DoorDash earnings to help cover household expenses alongside her job at a call centre.
The police apprehended the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Torrance Whitaker, who has since been charged with aggravated assault in connection to the incident. Herron’s bravery in completing the delivery has even garnered attention from local community members, with one resident remarking that she “needs a big tip” for her unwavering commitment.
Although Herron initially felt numb from adrenaline, she later experienced pain in various parts of her body, including her back, neck, and legs. Medical professionals have indicated that the effects of the impact may be long-lasting. “I do feel like it was a miracle that I made it out of that situation alive and that I didn’t have any broken bones or anything,” she stated.
In light of the accident, DoorDash has reached out to Herron to ensure she receives the necessary support during her recovery. A spokesperson for the company commented on her strength, expressing relief that she escaped the situation without severe injuries. They also highlighted that DoorDash drivers are covered by occupational accident insurance.
As she reflects on the traumatic experience, Herron is contemplating her future as a DoorDash driver. “Would I want to give up my side hustle because I’m scared for what’s gonna happen next? It did leave me in a traumatized state,” she admitted.
Despite the physical and emotional toll of the incident, Herron’s determination to complete her deliveries shines through. Her story has not only captivated many but has also sparked a broader conversation about the challenges faced by gig economy workers and their commitment to their responsibilities amid unforeseen circumstances.
